I think AI companies want regulation as a get-out-of-jail-free card. If they follow all the rules and still somehow cause massive damage, they can point to the regulations and say: We followed the rules. We did nothing wrong. You can’t hold us liable. #AI #TechPolicy #AIRegulation

Heh. I feel that I keep googling - I mean kagiing - for 'expo 58' to see if it has been released yet, am a bit surprised to see that the top link is to Wikipedia, and it's only after I click on the link that i re-realize that there was a World Fair in Brussels in 1958. #expo

The left one is the answer. This always confuses me, because I think the red color looks like I red “on” led light. I would have preferred a green color on the background when the keyboard is on.

Is it possible to get 'npx expo install --fix' to work together with npmMinimalAgeGate? We have the cooldown set to two days, so the command fails unless I happens to run it at a specific time in point where the Expo hasn't released any updated in the two two days. 😕 #expo #cooldown #npm

If Apple ships a foldable iPhone this year, I think the real winners will be iPad users. A foldable will encourage renewed focus on big-screen layouts, meaning more apps will get iPad versions since the work of supporting a bigger screen is already done. #Apple #iPad #foldableiPhone

Ads break the alignment between making the best product and maximizing revenue. Kagi shows how clean a paid search engine can be. Their only customer is you, not advertisers. I hope John Ternus dials back Apple's foray into advertising, removing it from the App Store and Maps.

@tkdodo.eu: I find this part of the docs for setQueryData a bit confusing. "If the query is not utilized by a query hook in the default gcTime of 5 minutes, the query will be garbage collected."

I guess it's the latter that is correct, and if so would prefer this wording: "If the query is not utilized by a query hook within the default gcTime, the query will be garbage collected. If default gcTime has not been configured, it defaults to 5 minutes."

@tkdodo.eu: I find this part of the docs for setQueryData a bit confusing. "If the query is not utilized by a query hook in the default gcTime of 5 minutes, the query will be garbage collected."

To me, this could either of these two things: The query will be garbage collected within 5 minutes regardless of what I have configured the default gcTime to in my project. The query will be garbage collected within the project's default's gcTime. If it has not been set, that default is 5 minutes.

We had to create a control for toggling privacy mode on/off in our app, and I ended with quite a lot of options for it. So I threw together this chart to have something to point at, when talking about the pros and cons of them.

I upgraded from a an iPhone 12 mini to a 17 Pro. I like the phone except for the bigger size, but I hadn't thought that much about the added weight. I wanted to see the evolution of the iPhone weight, so I came up with this chart.

Why is the default "lib" in tsconfig for an Expo project ["DOM", "ESNext"]? Isn't the DOM only available in browsers? And the Hermes compiler has so far partially implemented ES2020, right? #expo #typescript

That should have been with the array features. Don't know why this got added by accident because it was actually the missing Array.prototype.toSorted() that led me to this. "lib": ["ES2021", "ES2022.Error", "ES2022.Intl", "ES2022.Object"] developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/W...

developer.mozilla.orgArray.prototype.toSorted() - JavaScript | MDNThe toSorted() method of Array instances is the copying version of the sort() method. It returns a new array with the elements sorted in ascending order.

I am generally quite impressed with Copilot. Sure, there is a lot of noise, but I find it pretty easy to filter that out, and once in a while, it is a real hero. One thing though: Is it possible to configure Copilot to stop with these filler comments that don't add anything? #copilot

@kagi.com Is there any chance that you will be adding a personal search history at some point? I often find myself wanting to recall the searches that I have made earlier, and often searches made on other devices.

Yay. My little hobby project of creating a bot for Bluesky finally passed 100 followers. It is posting links to a Danish news site, so the target audience is quite limited. Fun fact: The first version was coded on an iPad with an external keyboard and mouse using GitHub Codespaces.

Playring around with @tanstack.com Router using file-based router, as the docs recommend. I have ended up configuring Ctrl+B to build my project to regenerate routeTree.gen.ts. This feels like going back to a compiled language. Is there something I am doing wrong, @tkdodo.eu?

My React Native app is broken in Expo 52: Now the PanResponder’s end callback on my slide-to-confirm button is triggered prematurely when the button is dragged just 10 pixels. The issue only occurs when the button is on a bottom sheet. Any suggestion on how I should debug this? @expo.dev

I ended up replacing my bottom sheet with a classic page. I guess it makes sense that dragging something on the somewhat wobbly bottom sheet is difficult to get right, but still annoying that I had to throw in the towel since it worked with Expo 51.

You are up to date.
