Updated my website! New colors, less Javascript, smaller bundle.. But importantly had fun writing code (and blog posts) without AI, and writing some nice surimi Styles. Check it out: Janis.me

Been on nix home-manager and nix-darwin for a long time, and this change felt even better. Managing disks, drivers, themes, compositor, keymaps... all in a central place, synced across all devices. Awesome!

Wait. When submitting a stack though github cli, it doesn't set the remote tracking branch? I'm sure the cli submits the code via git, since I had to unlock my SSH key. If I had push.autoSetupRemote enabled and gh cli would have chosen a different branch name, I'd have two remote branches?

Realized now that If you submit a stack, create PRs in the TUI but then pushing fails (e.g SSH keychain not ready) all PR changes are gone.

Coding used to be my hobby. For a long time now, it's been my job and it's really hard to treat it as a hobby (even with fun side projects). BUT: I feel like "coding without AI" could become my hobby again. I really crave hand-crafting code without AI but that's hard to justify in my day job.

Literally 100% this blog post. Exact order of tools used as well. bsky.app/profile/bell...

I'm p confident a lot of people will resonate with this brettcodes.com/im-done-usin... We need more perspectives from people with lots of experience as developers!

Just remembered I have the vite-plugin-slidev npm package. Started to work on a nice integration but let it slide (Pun intended). Does anyone want the package name to do good?

They also have an SDK, programmable instruments, effects and so much more. Super inspiring! #BTConf

Blown away by @andremichelle.bsky.social's openDAW, which runs ENTIRELY in the browser! 🤯 opendaw.org So much thought and attention to detail went into this. And it's all Open Source too! github.com/andremichell... The web is AMAZING 🤩 #BTConf

I mean GitHub but run by nice people and the community, integrated into THE social media network for developers? That's a setup for success.

A couple of years ago that unicorn was considered an Easter egg. Only a handful of people in the company even knew about it. Now it's a meme. And a bad one.

This post is unavailable.

I love that Github is finally building UI features again, but did they have to hire the team that built the AWS web console UI to do it?

I had so much FOMO about Atmosphere conf. But now that everyone talks about how great it was... yeah no. I missed out. Hope everyone got home safe :) Maybe next time!

This has to stop.

p75 and p90 JavaScript bytes on the web have exploded since May, 2025—easily the largest 10 month period based on HTTP Archive data since 2023. The long-tail is getting worse, very quickly. Gemini, what happened in May 2025?

It's super hard to comprehend how big of a deal this is. Everything on the web is so opaque to people, even most "developers" today, it doesn't matter to them. It's "kinda fast" for a single request and "kinda small" as in, not multiple gigabytes. But it's getting worse and worse.

The Cursor editor is getting worse and worse for me over time. I'm discovering more and more bugs every day. And they're all stuff unrelated to Vscode but rather things that seem to be the cursor extensions like agents.

Hey @npmx.dev folks! Wondering if the package size badge on npmx considers the size of dependencies that must be installed? E.g does it check the actual install size via bundlejs or similar? (I doubt that but you never know with npmx xD)

E.g for the library pcm-convert: Version 2.0 is a zero-dependency, pure ESM version where the index.js file got larger, but it doesn't require any deps. Yet npmx report the size grew by 200%+. So wondering if that's just measuring the bundled code

The Error code property proposal looks super promising. I wasn't aware just how well aligned the ecosystem is when it comes to error codes. Using instance-type based error classification is more elegant, but not really applicable for Javascript.

TC39@tc39.es

ECMAScript Excitement 🎉 This week, at its 113th meeting, TC39 advanced these proposals: 4️⃣ Intl era and monthCode 4️⃣ Temporal 3️⃣ Import text 2️⃣.7️⃣ Error stack accessor 2️⃣.7️⃣ Iterator includes 2️⃣ Intl unit protocol 2️⃣ Thenable curtailment 1️⃣ Error code property and withdrew Dynamic import host adjustment

The "absent by default" approach is understandable, though personally I would LOVE to suddenly get error codes for all default errors. Not sure if that'd break anything for me, but it sure would for all custom error classes that implement a "code" I guess

Anyone here knowledge in how vite and Vue/nuxt work together that can review a PR? I can donate some money for the effort, but I can't go down a rabbit hole to understand the entire environment API thing with the vue vite plugin.

Two things about knip.dev I don't get: - how did we live without it for so long - how did @webpro.nl NAIL the timing? Gave it to us right when AI started to produce left-overs in our codes faster than we ever could.
