10 years ago, I thought "programming is too hard, I'll make tools to make it easier" 5 years ago, I thought "I'll make a new language to make it easier" now I'm working on tools to make "making new languages" easier 😂

✍️ Just published a new post about my most-anticipated CSS proposals from Interop 2027! If you’re not familiar, the Interop project is a collaboration between browsers to pick shared focus areas. There’s *so much* good stuff this year, it was hard to pick just 10!

joshwcomeau.comThe Future of CSS ✨ • Josh W. ComeauEvery year, browser vendors collaborate via the Interop project to synchronize their efforts on new HTML/CSS/JS features. This year, there’s a ton of super exciting features being considered! In this ...

did anyone else play a ton of blobby volley as a kid? So it turns out the source is GPL 😁 been adding a ton of fun stuff to it (after porting to rust, ofc)

ok I think I've really got this working. - rich text CRDT (peritext-based) - movable blocks with split & join, retaining provenance and collaborative editing - strong cycle prevention both for split/join and block nesting annnd just for fun I've also implemented multicursor in the demo (cmd+click)

to whom it may concern: 6 characters is enough to represent a thousand years of minutes in base 36. 9 characters is enough to represent a thousand years of milliseconds.

At our seders, inspired by the one year we had a herpetologist guest, I invite attendees to speak in praise of frogs just after the plagues bit. If nobody has anything nice to say about frogs, I read them an abridged version of this weird lil story: sacred-texts.com/jud/jftl/jft...

this programming language is batteries included. due to an incident on a United Airlines flight involving those batteries, code written in this language is banned from air travel by the TSA and FAA.

Every language has an effects system if you're brave enough (to rewrite the compiler)

couldn't read this without constantly thinking about how much nicer it would be with an effect system

/6 ICE is a monument to totalitarianism, lawlessness, and bigotry. It should be ripped out and woodchippered root and branch and replaced with something focused on the concept that you can’t defend the rule of law by burning it down.

just saw a "why this matters" heading in a blog post and immediately skipped the rest of it. it's so surreal to be increasingly encountering people who are fine publishing LLM output as their own writing. I would love for there to be a social norm that if you're going to publish some LLM-output, 1/4

"but what about editors?!?" I think the difference is that in general, editors don't wholesale rewrite your work, and also do their best to preserve your voice. authors tend to have more pride than to allow what LLMs currently do. like they believe they have something to say, and don't want it to

you put your input at the top (it can be collapsed in an expandable box or something). idk it just gives me the weirdest vibes to think I was reading something written by a person, and then realize it's been heavily modified (or completely fabricated) by an LLM. Ghostwriting is icky, actually.
