this home run has gotta be one of the funniest in a postseason, all of yankee stadium goes silent and everybody, including the players stare at the fan who caught the ball on the wall

If English is not your first language, I cannot imagine how difficult it is to understand what they say on the subway as you as you leave JFK.

To my nyc friends, this fantastic sandwich is available at S&P lunch, I order it with the pickled hot pepper spread and it’s superb.

I also asked him his favorite sandwich, because I knew he’d have an answer this good.

With all the insanity around flying and because i'm a massive train nerd, I learned last week that there is indeed a sleeper train from NYC to ATL and I immediately decided to take the flight refund and take the train instead. So here I am at hour 1 of an 18 hour journey down south.

okay through project setup, again in the vein of going overboard for this project, i'm setting up workOS because i've already gotten a few ramen friends to agree to contribute to this silly thing and I want to give them a better experience than writing markdown

Preface all the above with a few major issues: 1. I am not a frontend engineer 2. I am not a designer 3. I have never used tanstack start or tanstack router 4. I am not a designer or frontend engineer With all that said... let's see how it goes.

I'm planning on hacking around a ramen review/rating site because I'm tired of influencer-baited reviews that tell you absolutely nothing about the bowls, shops, etc. Furthermore, the "best Ramen in NYC" lists are either woefully outdated or lack any detail beyond basic adjectives.

I wanted to try out remix 3 but it's not ready yet so instead I'm going to use tanstack start for this... let's begin. For the UI my partner wanted something "2000s era" feeling, and I think I'm going to take that to mean maximalist. I also want to try out anime.js and go a bit too crazy with this.

when did github's real-time updates on PRs break? It used to be that when i was looking at a PR and someone approved or commented i would see it without needing to reload the page. Same thing with test failures, I needed to reload the page to see if the tests succeeded.

The frustrating thing about this energy, especially in Boston, is that it results in worse pedestrian AND cyclist outcomes. Living in the south end, residents fought against the street improvements which added bike lanes, removed car lanes and extended sidewalks!

TinCanFury@tincanfury.bsky.social

in Boston it's true of both cars and bikers. and as a pedestrian I don't want to get hit by either, but so far that score is 4 to bikes and only 2 to cars. bikers here love running into my leashed dogs on the sidewalks.

People complained about how bikes on occasion would be on the sidewalk during the construction but that never would have happened if drivers didn’t cause an uproar for a _partial_ road closure. It’s not about improving outcomes for just one of these groups, it’s about making it better for everyone.

Bike infra in Boston is getting pretty amazing! Just rode from deep Cambridge (fresh pond) to Coolidge corner in under 30 mins on ~80% separated bike lanes! Made especially nice by the open streets closure on the Cambridge side of the Charles. Trip cost $3 on a blue bike vs a $2.90 train (1hr)

Thinking recently about how the internet became real life in the food world before anything else. So many early blogs were for recipes and restaurants, then SEO became make or break.

I went to a new 24 hour diner with an awful burger for $18. My partner and I were convinced they stay afloat due to their absurd instagrammable shakes ($17).

I think the funny thing is to think about this in the historical context of media and cuisine. Something like a Cornish Pasty was created out of necessity where miners needed a sturdy hand pie they could keep in a pocket. Now we have a reversal in that creative process.

A thing I lament is how few casual sit down brunch places exist in manhattan. Every brunch place needs to optimize for shtick in order to rationalize a $25 stack of pancakes so they can afford rent.

This 100% would get me back into playing games. I miss like small games that I can just play casually for a few hours. I do not like that it feels my only options today are 90+ hour games or attention sucking mini games.

Obviously a Humble Bundle-type solution with your sub comes to mind, but there are even weirder ways to do it. Maybe it is a printed pub with QR codes to free downloads. Maybe it’s (*gasp*) a thumb drive filled with indie games and demos shipped each month. That fills a nostalgia quotient, too.

And I know these types of games exist but it’s a curation problem, I don’t know they exist and would love for someone who is obsessed with these things to share their monthly deep dives. I’m pretty sure reading Macworld was how I learned about emacs Tetris which got me into little game programming

“But baldurs gate is so good!” “How many hours have you been playing?” “about 60 hours and I’m not even halfway!” Is a real conversation I had last week! I don’t want to play a game that takes this long

word to the wise, if your tailwind is fighting you for dynamic classnames in react, use the safelist in the config and save four hours of frustration safelist: [ { pattern: /col-start-\d+/ }, { pattern: /col-end-\d+/ }, { pattern: /row-start-\d+/ }, { pattern: /row-end-\d+/ }, ]
