As Public Advocate Jumaane Williams said yesterday, “the original J/Z isn’t doing so well.” That’s why we’re working with Governor Kathy Hochul — using congestion pricing funds to renovate Chambers Street and partnering with the MTA to tackle extreme heat in our subway stations.

Executive offices- mayoralship, governorship, and the presidency- are the very offices where power is already deeply concentrated into a single seat; sole executive seats set the very precedent for autocracy that transmutates the democratic form into a vehicle of executive empowerment.

Socialists should seat legislative offices, should seek to empower legislative bodies, to reign in executive power and subordinate it to the democracy of legislative consensus.

AOC: Millennials are not punk kids anymore. We're grown adults with mortgages and kids, and that generation is starting to be decisive at the polls. And there is anger at being ignored, having our economic futures mortgaged by the generations that came before us and we're taking the reins

Look at this graph. The share of national income going to the richest 10 percent was lowest (and share to lower 90 percent highest) when union membership was at its highest. As unions have weakened, inequality has widened. This is why we must build back union power.

Refusing to control the executive branch among congress is bipartisanly supported because both parties have a lot to lose if they used the powers of congress to control presidential immunity. Both parties want a strong executive, both parties support the project of American autocratization.

One of my first photos. The light from the low winter sun started interacting with low clouds at noon, which caused this amazing light. The birds stand on rocks just under the surface, far from land. #sea #scape #clouds #BirdOfTheDay #Firsts #birds #photography

He's a primary aesthetic influence of this trans new wave that we are seeing. These filmmakers are not copying him, but working alongside his aesthetic ideas in a spiritual manner (the fantasia of People's Joker, the Inland Empire-esque nightmare of CM2, Schoenbrun's dysphoric otherworlds)

A lot of Trans people like Lynch bc his films are situated in a strange liminal place of reality and an abstracted alternate reality and they phase between one another. The inbetweenness is welcoming & potentially synonymous to a quotidian low-humming dysphoria. A wrongness that many of us recognize

I worked for New York’s largest medical center at the start of the pandemic. There were morgue trucks on the streets. They set up emergency medical tents in Central Park. Healthcare worker colleagues died. It is horrific that RFK Jr is on national TV lying that ICUs were empty.

James Talarico on Texas officially banning THC: “Texans aren’t going to stop smoking weed and eating edibles because politicians in Austin say so. We are now telling full-grown adults how to live their lives. This is the nanny state at its worst; this is big government at its worst."

Tens of thousands of Virginians have had their voting rights restored thanks to a move from Gov. Abigail Spanberger. Spanberger announced that her office has restored voting rights for more than 66,000 people who have served their punishments after being charged with crimes.

The worst thing to happen was consumerism itself as a byproduct of commodity production.

CaptainKingsley@captainkingsley.bsky.social

The worst thing to happen to the consumer the past 20 years is the popularization of the ‘store membership’. I can’t walk into a single market anymore and just get a regular price like everyone else. No, I need to be a member to get your not inflated price. Fuck your memberships and your games.

The most protected tenant is an organized tenant. Yesterday, we welcomed the 8609 Bay 16th St. Tenant Association as the 100th tenant union to organize with the City's support.

Wanting princess treatment from a man is not feminist. Women should desire our independence, desire our empowerment, and not desire a man to take care of us. Feminism isn't just about systemic upheaval, but psychological and cultural transformation as well- we must dethrone the man in our heads.

This is why queer women- transgender and lesbian women in particular- are the most devoted feminists. We dismantle masculine dominance, we do not center men, we embrace womanhood and femininity. Men need to rebuild masculinity from a framework of being independent and not relying on women.

Patriarchy is the pedagogy of sex from the narrative centrism of men. Patriarchy is an information hierarchy that emerges structurally. If we want to undo it, we must restructure the way with which power emerges out of the exchange of information.

I understand why being taken care of is such a desirable thing, but we need to be strong: we must push for the empowerment of all. Women ought not be the princesses nor the mothers of all men. Men must look to our independence with envy and inspiration, and take notes for how to transform themselves

Rowling looming over a progressive Irish cultural festival with her menacing insinuations & a phalanx of expensive lawyers dashing off legal letters. And all because the organisers don’t want transphobes peddling hate at their event. A nauseating spectacle of spite.
