Median home price ~$650k, median annual salary ~$100k. Makes gambling very tempting for those trying to just catch up financially; “Well if I win a lot of money I could do xyz” ignoring the actual odds 🤷‍♂️

Only In Boston@onlyinbos.bsky.social

Massachusetts residents spend more on lottery tickets per person than any other state in America. Rhode Island ranks #2. A new Federal Reserve Bank of Boston report says no region spends more on the lottery than New England.

I feel like there should be a equalizer pool of some sort that feels less shitty than just taxes coming out of your paycheck. Have a set of tiered percentages based on income, and then divide the pool equally amongst everyone as a tax rebate so the financial power goes back to individuals.

Example in a small pool of incomes & sample rates 100k x .2 = 20k 50k x .15 = 7.5k 50k x .15 = 7.5k 20k x .05 = 1k 20k x .05 = 1k 20k x .05 = 1k 20k x .05 = 1k 20k x .05 = 1k Total: 40k Divided: 5k back Poorer get ahead a bit, rich get pulled back a bit, people in the middle stay about the same.
