One of the biggest problems starting in 2020 and continuing today is using surgical masks to prevent the spread of airborne illnesses - that's just not what they're for, causing confusion about if "masks work." Surgicals are mediocre at best for how they've been used the last 6 yrs.

RFK decided to once again target maskers in a speech, laughing about going to LA and seeing people driving in their cars while masked. And I want to make sure people know that studies have shown that the reason someone might wear a mask in their car is that it's none of your fucking business.

PSA: get your flu shot now if you haven't already Using last year's flu trends as a template, from today we expect infection rates to double every 1.5 weeks, peaking ~2 months from now. After vax, immunity takes 1.5 weeks to kick in, peaks at 1-2 months, decays after 3 months.

This is a 40% reduction in access to care for 8500+ patients, and neither the clinic nor patients were informed until last week. There are already huge barriers to LC & ME care in BC. Long Covid clinic runs virtual sessions of up to 50 patients. Many of them feature support from allied health professionals (AHPs) like occupational therapists, physios and psychologists MSP fee changes mean AHPs will no longer be available in virtual group settings www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

Bad indoor air can hurt people in a variety of ways but administrators don’t want to be responsible for another domain to think about. Free air filters are a threat to them. My local school district sold all their filters for a few dollars per. Guess the kids don’t need clean air anymore!

Mar Hicks@histoftech.bsky.social

One of the things that continually floors me is how many schools—across the country—refuse FREELY OFFERED air filters even when the science is clear that they help cut down on all airborne infections. Some schools even ban them, despite students and parents begging to be allowed to use/provide them.

Here are the filters local schools sold over the summer without telling teachers. Probably didn’t want to spend a few dollars per student on filter changes and power. To be fair, most HEPAs are loud and don’t clean a ton of air, so I wouldn’t buy these for a school, but that’s not why they sold them

As part of a local group we bought a bunch of these purifiers through a Gov auction site and we’ve actually given them right back to some teachers in the same schools that sold them this summer.

We are learning so much more about the importance of prevention and yet see society as a whole (including scientists) doing so much less to protect themselves…Makes no sense. “COVID-19 can wake up dormant viruses in the body, large study confirms” www.science.org/content/arti...

A lot of you have been frustrated with your school district, and we get it. But we want to talk to the people who have been making the decisions that affect kids’ and teachers’ health and tell them we understand the challenges they’re up against.  #CleanAirKits #cleanairinschools #airpurifiers

As a Covid long hauler, while I appreciate the vaccine encouragement, it is deeply frustrating to see yet another physician, who sees LC patients, foregoing the best tool for reducing transmission at the source. Please wear a mask, ideally KF94, KN95, or N95. Keep yourself and others safe.

💉 Yes, I still get vaccinated against COVID. And yes, I chose Novavax. As a physician who treats Long COVID, I get questions about vaccines all the time. Here’s why I chose Novavax, why I got it now, and why I didn’t get it with my flu shot. 🧵👇1/5

Whitney Fox argues that advocates, clinicians, and researchers must prioritize prevention and demonstrate the gravity of infection-associated chronic conditions like Long COVID by providing and wearing masks at public events. thesicktimes.org/2026/10/19/c...

i’ve said it before and i’ll say it again: it’s so disheartening to see events ostensibly in the name my chronic illness(es)—conditions linked to sars2 infection as a trigger—that do not prioritize mitigation and thus the safety of attendees.

PSA. Flu season is starting very early this year. WW numbers aren't very high yet, but they are a couple of months ahead of schedule just about everywhere. Almost entirely H1N1. If you are getting a flu shot, don't put it off.

The CDC might take away a key data source on Long COVID and ME. You have until this Tuesday, October 20, to tell them why that would be a mistake. The advocacy group Solve ME has put together a script that people can use to leave a comment: solvecfs.org/cdc-me-cfs-l...

Her illness started with Covid, and despite her incredible, international-competition level fitness at the time. I don’t know who exactly would have to get this for healthy people to understand that when they get Covid, which they will continue to get, they are spinning a chamber and firing the gun.
