More action in the set up! That’s what second drafts are for, right? #WeeknightWriters

Hello #WeeknightWriters! Come on in, introduce yourself and your WIP, and let us know how your #FirstDraftFall planning is going! Are you plotting anything? Pantsing? Somewhere in between?

Hello #WeeknightWriters! Confession- I swore I would not write a short for a call I’ve been eyeing in a genre I love that closes the 31st. I will stay true to my novel draft. Today I started a sprint to write that short. So the weekend is sorted.

I see we're having a debate about whether it's okay to go back to "X," the site owned by a trillionaire fascist who is currently bankrolling the GOP's midterm, throttled Ukraine's war effort, and still winkingly allows vast amounts of CSAM on his service Answer: No, what the fuck is wrong with you

Take your tender, sensitive ego and park it elsewhere. Writing will be rejected. It doesn't speak to the writing so much as to what a specific editor is looking for at that exact time. Stop having meltdowns. Get used to rejection/resubmission. Normal. #writingcommunity #booksky #marketing

At the end of the day, don’t we all just want a cottage in the Scottish Highlands, an Agatha Christie novel, an alluring rainstorm, a crackling fire, a kettle on the stove, and a basket of freshly-baked emotional support scones?

My ambitious plan is to get to the ‘All Is Lost’ scene. Could happen. #FirstDraftFall #weeknightwriters #writingcommunity

Monday #FirstDraftFall Check-In: What aspects of story planning are you going to work on this week? Do you have a specific goal?

Which part of writing steals the most time from you? I write the 1st draft longhand so transcribing that on the word processor (rewriting as I go) is a huge time commitment. #WritingCommunity #Writers #Authorlife

Typically have the story and the character arc, then look for a character. #WeeknightWriters

Q1: Do you typically create characters to match the story you want to tell or build your stories based on character(s) already living in your head? #WeeknightWriters

The secrets they keep from the other characters. Mostly a function of supporting cast. #WeeknightWriters

What is the movie that came out before you were born that you've watched the most times?

Damned near every movie or TV show that includes a school principal. My wife can’t watch them with me because all I do is correct their ridiculous decisions.

What’s the most important thing that writing has taught you? Probably different ways of seeing the same thing, if that makes sense. Probably not 😂 #writingq #WritingCommunity
