Happy 25th Birthday Wayback Machine! On October 24, 2001, The Internet Archive organization launched a free digital archive of websites for the general public called the Wayback Machine. The oldest pages stored in the archive date back to 1996.

I recently became aware of the Memory Project (memoryproject.online) which documents a lot of stories of those who fled Hungary after the revolution. I have had the privilege of meeting several Hungarians and getting to hear their stories.

I am rereading James Michener's, The Bridge at Andau, to observe the 70th anniversary of the 1956 Hungarian revolution.

My youth soccer coach fled Hungary. I am not sure if it was after the revolution. I remember going to a soccer exhibition where the KC Comets played the Soviets. I could tell Joe had deep feelings against the Soviets based on his reactions during the game.

I reworked the dark mode color scheme for a section of the Revive Our Hearts site to apply things I gained from an article I read two weeks ago. I enjoyed postseason baseball playing MLB The Show '23 with the Orioles.

Last night, my other adopted team, the Rays, swept the Yankees in the ALDS. I'm hoping that this is the Rays year and they are able to bring the World Series trophy to Florida.

I love this time of the year and playoff baseball. Forty six years ago today, I got pulled out of class. My mom was in the hallway and told me that we had tickets waiting at Royals Stadium for Game 1 of the ALCS. The Royals won that day and went on to win the ALCS over the Yankees.

I had a taste of Hungary for dinner last night and for lunch today. Csirkepaprikás (Paprika Chicken) with paprika from Szeged that some friends from church gave us. Just as good the second time around. I wish I had some zsemle bread to go with it.

@artlung.com Thanks for mentioning Mememto Mori. I created an archive a couple of weeks ago and then updated it today. I figured out what parts of the output I needed to copy over to my version. I had updated the HTML and CSS for my version. Easy to update. Thanks again.

@kevinpowell.co Do you have a demo online of your GSAP racing landing page? I did not see a link in your latest video or the longer one you did a couple of months ago. I would to love to look it over outside of the videos. So many creative things going on.

I noticed over the weekend that Chrome (and Brave) no longer support grid-lanes. I have a personal project that I use it in. Not been able to find any documentation yet on the change.

This has been a “polish” day and I am enjoying it. Focusing on little details and making interfaces better. Behind the scenes and not very glamorous but so rewarding. #FrontEndDevelopment #CSS

I did a search this morning for a question I had about hero elements and <main> content. One of the first search results (after AI) was an article I wrote a little bit over a year ago. jeffbridgforth.com/hero-and-sem... The problem today is exact one I was wrestling with then. #HTMLisHard

jeffbridgforth.comHero and semantic orderingIt started with a question: should a hero be contained within a main HTML element. And like many questions of this nature with HTML, it's never clear cut and certainly not simple.

This is interesting. I don't like that it involves adding another div but it is a nice trade-off for being able to animate and transition the grid cell content.

Bramus@bram.us

Back in June I shared a demo of a grid that smoothly animates on resize without JS or View Transitions. I finally sat down to write up how it works: CSS Anchor Positioning + scoped anchors + regular CSS transitions. → brm.us/animated-grid

I have already started using flex-wrap: balance. I am looking forward to playing with flex-line-count and see what problems it could solve for me.

✍️ New Article: Balancing flex items with flex-wrap: balance I explored flex-wrap: balance and flex-line-count and really enjoyed using them. I even made a masonry layout by mixing flex-line-count, round, clamp, and container queries units! 😀 ishadeed.com/article/flex...
