Describe your book/wip with six words or less #WritingPrompt

Every morning in my End of Shift Report, I update everyone on the status of the dispatch betta fish, Mina. The updates are usually upbeat, about her cheering up crews or how clean her water is or how curious and active she’s being. +

Last night, though? Deep tank cleaning. Instead of going willingly into her smaller cup like usual, she hid and made me chase her around the tank and remove all the decorations so she had nowhere to hide. I ended the report with a joke about doing shots of Stress Coat.

Cancer treatment. When I was younger, metastatic breast cancer and metastatic melanoma were “kiss your ass goodbye” cancers. Now I’m No Evidence of Disease with MBC after 7 years (today!) and there’s a melanoma recurrence vaccine in development.

Social media loves talking about how everything is getting worse. But what’s something that you’ve seen get _better_ in your lifetime?

SO ANNOYED. I have this cool recipe: a “big batch of breakfast.” 4🥔, 1🧅, 1lb sausage, 12oz green chile, 8🥚. Lg saucepan. Cook sausage first, remove from pan, then cook 🥔🧅. Combine all, then add 🥚, cook until firm, mix in green chile. #recipe

Anyway, I was doing the thing, and I opened the fridge to look for the 🥚. NONE. I ordered some on Sunday! (instacart) Did I just miss them not being included? Did they fuck off into another dimension?

The recipe is fine without them, but obviously not as good or as filling or able to stretch into as many servings. 😒 And of course I can’t just go get some 🥚(or have them delivered) because it’s 0330 and nowhere is open. Night shift problems.

All my dental work seems to be failing at once. If my crowns in the front start to go, I am going to—(remembers that suicide jokes aren’t funny)—hire a kaiju to intimidate the dentist into doing the work for free.

My goal is for this to be the inside of my brain more often. (Alt: a pastel scene of a bunny laying in a field, playing violin, being visited by a bunny in a UFO. 3 small bunnies frolic in the field.)

I’m chillin downstairs. I hear THUMP THUMP THUMP THUMP THUMP THUMP THUMP THUMP THUMP upstairs. Soba has the zoomies. I wish I knew what was going on in his tinycat brain. What impulse or game is causing him to run around all batshit crazy and climb on every vertical surface?

Yesterday sucked. I went to the dentist, my mean aunt’s house, did chores, worked in the garden for 3 exhausting hours (the fun part! 🌷), and then went to the emergency room and met the most condescending doctor I’ve encountered in DECADES. (I’m fine, just hypokalemic) EPIC BEDTIME AWAITS 😴

i worry that men think being A Good Guy is dramatically and heroically intervening on behalf of an endangered woman and then being publicly rewarded on a grand scale when actually being A Good Guy is just usually saying, “hey man that’s not funny” or “wow that’s fucked up” and there is no reward

I love writing! I *abhor* business. Organization, researching the backgrounds of potential vendors, following meticulous instructions, professional communication, rejection, self promotion, money…I hate it all. So I write, and don’t publish. It’s purely a hobby, for my own amusement.

What made you decide to go down the publishing path you're on? #WritingPrompt

Got flu and covid vaccines on Sunday. Side effects are affecting me, as expected. I will be miserable with a fever and body aches until early Wednesday morning, which is WAY better than actual Covid! (Probably better than flu, too, but I’ve never had that so I wouldn’t know) Anyway, x_x

Local friends! Are you immunocompromised or around anyone who is? Are you unvaccinated? Do you have or know any tiny babies? Measles is here (again 😒) and spreads by DROPLETS. Get your MMRs, wash your hands, and mask indoors in public places. www.sacbee.com/news/local/a...

Local friends! Have you seen this cat? If so, where the hell is she? Sharing for a friend without bsky. This lady is a spayed indoor kitty who escaped and needs to get back home. Please share around and call the microchip company at 888-466-3242 if you see her.

There are *nerves* inside our *teeth* and I hope that error gets patched out in the next update. (recovering from a root canal; while I’ve never been punched in the face, I imagine it feels a lot like I’m feeling right now)

Watched this lady run last year and learned some things. Watched her run again and learned some more things this year! Our trans and intersex siblings need us to watch, learn, be cool, and advocate; there’s strength in numbers and even more strength in compassion! 🏳️‍⚧️

“Intersex” is the “I” in LGBTQIA. Learned a lot, watching this.

Today was a day off, so I did the bare minimum. I’ve gone straight from being sick with a cold, to a tooth infection needing a root canal tomorrow. 🤐 Thursday I’m back at work, so the bare minimum ended up being a lot of freaking errands and chores! 😅 Tomorrow’s gonna suck but at least I can rest.

In my wedding vows, I told my husband that I would show him every day that I love him. I have stuck to this, even on my most miserable days. Today’s show of love: Pancakes and banana berry smoothies, delivered with a smile and loving words, followed by washing dishes. 🥰 +

Spent an hour organizing a little rolling cart to hold all my manicure supplies. Doing nails is one of my favorite things, but the getting started is always hard; hopefully having everything in one user friendly work space will make that part of it easier for me. 💅

You know how after you’ve been laying around sick for a while and you take a shower and then you feel all wonderful and refreshed? Didn’t work. Now I feel damp and clean and sick and angry. 🤧

Slowly beginning the process of changing my laptop from windows to Linux. But it’s been so long since I’ve used Linux that I’ve forgotten how to use it. sudo apt-get my ass, I guess. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Ordered a book for command line reference and have been looking up tutorials.

I think there should be Service Industry Labor Day. The ENTIRE service industry gets the day off, except for services so essential that they can’t go a day without closing (hotels, pharmacies, etc). Employees who had to work that day would get the next day off. All paid, of course. +

The second would be to illustrate how much we rely on the service industry. They keep the world going. They deserve consistent hours, seats, good pay, benefits, and respect from both management and customers. They are essential, yet treated like garbage. +

Until a person can make a living—pay for housing, food, healthcare, transportation, education, savings, leisure, and retirement—from a service job, we deserve to endure a day without service to remind ourselves how important service workers are.

I’ve tried this with Soba 🐈‍⬛. He was down for about five minutes. Then he attacked my laptop and knocked it down, realized that no squirrels or birds were coming out of the now-upended laptop, and skulked away.

My husband and I just watched our cats enjoying cat tv for the past half hour and it brought us so much joy, we were in tears from laughter

I find it odd that I talk like someone from somewhere I’m not from; my parents aren’t from Utah, either. Mom grew up in Colorado like me, and while Dad was born in Washington, he spent like maybe five minutes there before being raised in California.

Drove all the way across town for a CT scan today, only to be told that my scan is actually tomorrow. 😡 Entirely my mistake, too, which makes the whole thing even more annoying. Let’s look at a baby picture of my cat to feel better! 🐈‍⬛
