Article 50 of Geneva Convention I, Article 51 of Geneva Convention II and Article 147 of Geneva Convention IV hold that extensive destruction and appropriation of property, not justified by military necessity and carried out "unlawfully and wantonly” are grave breaches.

We prosecuted and convicted Nazis at Nuremberg under Art 6b of the London Charter for these crimes, among others. These crimes are restated in the Uniform Code of Military Justice that all service members must follow.
