Having spoken to my classicist wife I regret to report that the first scene in Musk’s “historically accurate” AI Odyssey does not appear in the Odyssey.

(Specifically, the baby about to get plowed under by oxen isn't in the Odyssey, it's from associated stories. As Kendra put it, "It seems like a historically accurate adaptation of a Wikipedia article.")

Saúde, Brazil!

Lula has been reelected president, Brazilian media has now called. An extraordinary comeback for the left-wing politician who trailed by 2 points in round 1 but managed to hold off Flávio Bolsonaro, the former president's son.

If you like unmotivated character movements, a relentlessly gray palette, shots that last no longer than three seconds, and characters whose one emotional setting is "grim maleness", boy does Elon have a seven-minute AI-generated fragment of the Odyssey for you.

Last night I dreamed I saw the new Dune movie, which opened with a beautifully detailed aerial assault on a city-planet. Tucked in among the buildings was an AT-IC from Kenner's unproduced 1986 "The Epic Continues" line. I thought to myself "I like an Easter egg, but this is getting out of hand."

That said, the Star Wars Shot By Shot account has been going through TLJ for a while now and every time I peek over there it's just a lovefest for VIII. People are coming out of the woodwork to love that movie.

I didn’t know technical cross-sections of Star Wars ships were being made by Joe Johnson, Steve Gawley, and Lorne Peterson as early as 1978, nor how faithful the modern cross-sections stayed to those early imagined technologies.

The blueprints confirm that the “two bolts in the front, rod in the back” configuration of Artoo’s legs is the correct one. (His legs get swapped for various shots, all the way up to modern times, so the two square details are sometimes in the back.)

This may be a candidate for the 2026 Dumbest BlueSky Argument of the Year Award, because if you truly don’t believe you can change people’s minds with evidence and debate, why are you trying to change people’s minds with evidence and debate?

Personally, if I had 400,000 followers, I would not quote-bleet well-intentioned randos to disagree with them and then make vague noises to my followers about not dogpiling them, I would simply not quote-bleet randos.

That time someone dumped a toy house on the cemetery wall and, when I crouched a bit, some ✨ Hollywood Magic ✨ occurred.
