I used to have ambition. I used to want to lead. I've stood watching the things I care about being systematically destroyed and everything is so fucked we don't know where to start unfucking this mess. I don't have ambition anymore. I just have a fire burning inside and just want to do things.

I'm so infuriated that children have died in Texas because of silicon valley tech bro bullshit libertarianism like Retire All Government Employees (RAGE) from Curtis Yarvin. Which was then encapsulated in Project 2025, then executed by DOGE. They've had real world consequences. Fatal ones.

The fact of the matter is that this is a systemic "feature" of our government. A government that systematically chooses to do nothing when children are slaughtered by gun violence in their schools or extreme weather events at their camps. Oh except prayer, which studies show does...fuck all.

This is what it's like to be a parent in America. You're working to support your family, but then you have to work to protect your family b/c there is no help to ensure the safety of your children and many times the govt ends up supporting things that threaten your kids. It's fucking exhausting.

Now is not the time for "this is what they voted for." Families have suffered loss and saying things like that are hurtful. People make a lot of stupid decisions, but as a parent I would never want to put my kids in danger and I assume these parents would want to put their kids in danger either.

I like that "Taskmaster" is trending on Bluesky every Thursday/Friday. 😁 If you haven't watched it yet, it's so much fun. For the first time the show has an American as a contestant. Jason Manzoukas brings an element of delightful chaos to the show that I'm very much here for.

I built a Bjorn! He’s trying hard to find insecurities in my network. Maybe I’ll throw out a Postgres instance with a weak password to see if Bjorn will find it.

This is why when Democrats put their faith in law, I know we're truly doomed. Oregon law is that LEOs aren't supposed to be doing this, but who's stopping them? What's the consequences? Quis custodiet ipsos custodes? Laws are weaponized against us but don't protect us. We protect us.

If you don't think this is coming for you, look at Portland 2020 when the same types of people showed up and tear gassed the shit out of us. The difference is now that the courts have given them air cover, and nobody has faced any consequences for anything in 2020. #thentheycameforme

Unbelievable! Today, San Diego witnessed a government-sanctioned kidnapping. ICE stormed Buona Forchetta in military gear ripping workers away, then unleashing tear gas and smoke on the terrified community. Full on police state, fascism now used on American citizens. Stay aware. #OnYourSide

3 day weekends are less fun when I have the destructive force of my boys and their friends. Good news, I have a Planka chore board to get back on track. 😁

Working with Rust lately has taught me that I find myself more concerned with rapid prototyping and speed of delivery over correctness in my projects. I’m finding Typescript and Go to be a good combo for this. I really want to figure out how to do more Rust but I think it’s just not time yet.

💯 Look deep in your neighborhoods and communities. There are groups who are working hard to keep everyone safe. Mutual aid networks are there. If you can't find mutual aid networks, time to roll up your sleeves.

I feel this deep in my bones. For me it's the fire I have to build technology and offer it for free to better humankind. I still believe in a future where knowledge saves us. That future can't be monetized. When you ask the question: "How can we make money on this?" It's a race to the bottom.

I really wish I could describe GenZ what it felt like growing up in a miracle. My grandfather on my mother's side was a dentist. He had a grand encyclopedia collection and it was just this incredible thing. You could pick up a random book and go to a random page and just be regaled with information

I got laid off over a year ago and it has still impacts me to this day. The role I was in was the high point of my career. I feel for the people who are getting laid off. It's a really shitty experience. It has nothing to do with you and everything to do with unabated capitalism in tech.

I have a button with a Bernie Sanders quote on it that is my new mantra for when things are hard: "Despair is not an option." In these times of layoffs, fascist takeovers, and boatloads of uncertainty, find things that bring you joy and reconnect with your roots and despair won't be an option.

The protest was so big that it’s impossible for the media to ignore. The protest won’t change trump but it’s not for him. It’s for us. Seeing your neighbors and knowing we’re in this fight together.

I tuned into a Portland budget working session. I know more about the city budget than I should. I hate this. I could do so much more with that brain space.

This year's Kubecon looks like it was 🔥 I wish things weren't so on fire around me that I could have gone. I've got some good stuff coming up though

Rallied for trans rights and support of my trans neighbors yesterday. I’m going to be there every day to fight for an inclusive future.

I wish that posting to the Signal API was a bit easier than this has worked out to be. That's a problem for later. Maybe when I rewrite this little service in Rust.

The City of Portland is facing a massive budget shortfall due to in part what the city has cited as "high vacancy rates." So of course this means that my kids afterschool program is on the chopping block. Maybe we cut the kids loose in the vacant buildings after school. Boom! Problem solved.

Why do we still have this emoji 💾? Nobody born after 2000 has any idea what it is we don’t use disks anymore. How many people use that emoji?

In the spirit of Mardi Gras, tonight you indulge. Don't doom watch the president, stop doom scrolling, go out and get that cake. Get that ice cream. Get/make that vegan cookie bar recipe you've been reading about. The fight continues tomorrow, for tonight: Laissez les bons temps rouler!
