This year is 30 years since my mother died, so I’ve begun the emotional process of sorting through her correspondence from the last six months of her life and all the funeral ephemera. Many, many letters from her best friend, who I’d all but forgotten.

Did a quick search to see if I could find this woman and reach out. No trace of her, but! Her husband is sufficiently accomplished as to have a Wikipedia page (!!!!) AND the family has apparently donated their entire early 80s video gaming collection to a university library, which is extremely cool.

Also discovered my mother’s wishes that she be autopsied “to see if the transplant worked” (???) so I also have a call in to the county coroner’s office to see if it’s possible to find out if that happened.

Last year on my birthday I flew across the country to go to my dad’s funeral. This year I started physical therapy because I wasn’t able to walk for five days after a back injury. I’d like to have a properly GOOD birthday next year, please.

Taught two classes today and made a dent on my grading backlog. I think that's all that can reasonably be expected of me after five days of not being able to walk, so I will be napping now, thankyouverymuch.

Came in three hours early today because it’s advising week…and there’s no internet. Which means I cannot do ANY work. I can’t advise, I can’t grade, I can’t do emails, I can’t prep. Cool cool cool.

You there! Yes, you! Are you an actor or performer, or do you teach drama, theatre, or acting? I want to hear from you for my new project that's all about *care* in relation to performer training. Details in the slides; Link is below Thank you in advance for taking part 🤗

I’m team-teaching a Bible as Literature course with a theologian colleague this semester, and I am having the absolute BEST time of my entire career. I was raised Catholic but have never held any sort of religious conviction, and market myself as an atheist these days.

Buried in Exodus 4:25ish is a throwaway line about Moses’s wife (he was married!!) circumcising their son (they had a baby!!!) and then applying the foreskin to Moses’s feet!!! WHY????? For secret reasons!!!! Learning is so cool.

I haven’t given the Bible any serious consideration in probably 25 years or more, so every single class day brings so many new ideas to me and I am learning so much! This week is 1998’s THE PRINCE OF EGYPT + Exodus, and y’all, the story of Moses is WILD.

I’m spending the next few days batch cooking because I miss eating like a real person but cooking for one all the time is such a slog. So: butter chicken, potato leek soup, lasagna, chili, chicken pie, ham and pea soup, chicken leek casserole, and so much more!!

I work at a public library. People who want to use AI seem to have no trouble doing so. People who don't want to use AI have a harder time. I crowdsourced and then finalized this document "How to disable or avoid intrusive AI" and then gave it a short URL: notoai.org Please pass along if it's useful

If the problem can be solved by “actually hire enough qualified people to do the job correctly” then the real problem isn’t selecting the right tool or shifting how the job is done

Okay I am just so damn proud of myself. When I bought my house two years ago, I inherited this 70s disaster of a bathroom. Today I finished the upgrade, which includes sexy tile floors and awesome new wallpaper that I put up all by myself with not one other person helping me!!
