My mom was just telling me of a low point in my parent's life when they needed to apply for public housing in the early 90's. They were waitlisted for a whopping month, and were then offered several housing options. I think the wait list today is like 3 years.

There are currently protests breaking out in every state. You probably won't see much about it in the media, though.
