it’s so fun and cool how i only get paid once a month and it’s not clearly scheduled so I never know exactly when it’ll be means i’m constantly low key annoyed and stressed for the last week of each month 💀

Halloween season is here, and it's never too early for parents to start inspecting the candy their children consume. Be sure to look for the telltale signs that their treats may have been tampered with:

On Bioware's closure, and how its legacy lives on in games they inspired. feat. @adashtra.bsky.social @alyssamerc.bsky.social @osamadorias.bsky.social @heartimecia.bsky.social ( & thanks to @silvarils.bsky.social) www.cbc.ca/news/enterta...

I continue to want to break into JRPGs but it always just feels like I didn't do the homework😭 I try all the classics but all of them feel like they're building on a foundation I don't have and then modern stuff is 800 hours long and localized to english by space aliens

I do think I've gotten myself over the hump with ATB though. weirdly FF6 letting me turn off the ATB display was a big help. if I can't *see* the bars constantly filling, I get less stressed (but then that game keeps adding characters and jumping around and I feel like I can't keep up 😭)

heads up the standalone version of AC Zero is up on steam now, automatically added to your library if you're eligible (i.e. if you pre-ordered 8) Saves transfer, and it has achievements like the console versions ^_^

Extremely this. I've seen plenty of commentary on how BioWare now (well, BioWare at the time of its execution) is not the same studio that made X or Y game because of staff turnover, but it was still a 30 year institution and all of that in-house continuity is gone.

Bruno Dies@brunodias.dev

Games are made by people and game studios are made of people but game studios are also made of institutional knowledge, continuity, practices, standards, technology, resources, and IP. And those things do mean something, and it is a loss when they're discarded.

It's convenient for the child rapists who now run EA to claim Veilguard was a massive flop because what they want to do already is eliminate any part of EA that isn't a gambling and sportswashing operation. You don't have to fucking help them.

You can look at Veilguard as a game that cost too much money to make or you can look at Veilguard as a cheap salvage operation subsidized by the asset overhang of canceled projects, and how EA chooses to view it is just a function of internecine politics.

Whether any given AAA game is profitable or a financial disaster is now largely a definitional question around what "counts" as the production for that game and not 1-2 other canceled projects

This shit is Hollywood accounting. It's fake. You don't have to buy the notion that games are simply Too Expensive To Make because The Graphics Are Too Good or whatever, it's not real.

People want to blame graphical fidelity, scope expectations, etc etc etc for ballooning budgets and schedules when DA:V, a game with stylized visuals and constrained content expectations, "cost" however the fuck many hundreds of millions to come out because they made three games and shipped one
