The only account dedicated to letting people know what's fresh and new in the world of Nintendo 64 and Quest 64, a game that hasn't changed for 20+ years.
October 26 2000, Majora's Mask debuted on the N64 in the Americas!
Development started out of a lack of enthusiasm to work on the expansion for Ocarina of Time, N64DD's "Ura Zelda".
Eiji Aonuma protested, so Miyamoto challenged him to make a sequel for the game by next year!
And he did!
October 25 2021, Dr. Mario 64 debuted on the Nintendo Switch Online for the N64!
While this date was 20 years after the original release of the game, it's notable for being the first time Dr. Mario 64 was released in PAL regions; the game was originally an American and iQue exclusive!
My own two cents on spotting genAI crap within retro game modding/hacking & homebrew communities:
One of the easiest telltale signs of something being vibecoded is if the "project"/"mod"/"hack" in question uses a particular faux "pixel font" with zero variation:
#devtober day 24, outdoor night lights
Playing with outdoor torches to help light Melrode given everyone's so worried about Bart being gone, Ralph lights these since he's always calling people lazy. Also fighting an intrusive thought to add fishing so there's a pier now etc.
October 24 1999, Tonic Trouble debuted on the N64 in PAL territories!
Developer Ubisoft created the game side by side with its sister project, Rayman 2: The Great Escape, with Tonic Trouble being focused on 3D adventure and Rayman leaning more towards 3D action platforming!
#devtober day 23, starting to think about small doorways
Nothing interesting today, this dumb little door has been on my mind but my door stuff embarrassingly does not support something like this existing -- will try again tomorrow when baby is less fussy lol.
#devtober day 21, thinking about door insets
Many of the Quest doors have frames that are cut into the wall, which adds coziness to that person's home, but my actual workflow for this feels very roundabout. I feel like people probably have nicer tools for doing this.
You may ask "how do you know they are PlayStation 3 games Mr. Mailman?
Well you see, PS3 games are slightly smaller compared to other systems with DVD size cases and they are more rigid
That and they opened one in front of me and we talked about it lol
(It was Tomb Raider Underworld)
October 23 1998, Kiratto Kaiketsu! 64 debuted on the N64 in Japan!
It was the first party style board game on the system, ahead of Getter Love & Mario Party!
Outside of games like Monopoly/Game of Life it may be considered one of the earliest board games of it's kind on major home consoles!
#devtober day 22, more insets + garden planning
Started treating the little shapes I use for inset cutouts as their own important thing and keeping their shapes as prefabs.
I'd love to make the garden visible from the dorm hallway, but they don't actually seem to line up?
October 22nd 1999, Yakochu II: Satsujin Koro debuted on the N64 in Japan!
The only text based N64 survival/thriller, the concept of the game is that the player is a guest on a ship...and spooky happens!
Like any good survival horror, there are tons of possible choices and endings!
Thanks to @jupiterjazz89.bsky.social for finding the source I couldn't remember, they shared the link
You can go read more revisionist history from Samuel Rivera there lol
I wish I remembered where this came from, if anyone else does please share
I skipped my toast and coffee to try and find it and now my morning is all thrown off lol
#devtober day 20, NPC interactables
Town folks can now be aware of things they may want to interact with, like a lamp when it starts to turn dark etc. Couldn't find a close-enough bookshelf so didn't do much with their library yet.
N64 successfully RGB modded! Even with my shitty soldering iron. Need to buy a new one. The thing would get so cold it was soldering itself into the pins!
But what a great opportunity to post something related to #Quest64 again. ๐
See now we're fucking talking
One of the only weapons we wield in this fight is our money and attendance, and if everyone involved with an event says "I'm not going unless you stop using AI" there's only two outcomes:
*No AI or No Convention*
Conventions are made by and for the community

I'm still pissed that the esteemed Long Island Gaming Expo slopped up their event and besmirched Quest 64 with AI garbage
But I'm more pissed that there weren't more people pissed about it

The Long Island Gaming Expo happened over the weekend, and by all accounts it was a great event with tons of gaming history
BUT
They used AI for their informational placards and had a Pro-AI panel
Below is a survey you can fill out about the event, you can tell them what you like and dislike ๐
