Naked, ignorant racism. It does seem to be the case that no Arab has won the Fields Medal (which I think is what he means when he says Fields Prize) but the other claims are false, which he would have realized if he'd done even a cursory google search.

RFK: "There's five hundred million Arabs in the world. And yet they don't produce science. They don't win the Nobel Prize. They don't win the Fields Prize. They don't win the Wolf Prize. They don't produce literature."

Does anyone else find that Claude misattributes who authored an idea in a long session? It often attributes ideas to me that it came up with, and vice versa.

Turek accepting right-wing talking points on trans rights and his refusing to take a principled stand for human rights just makes him look pathetic. I would think that a candidate who was willing to forcefully defend the trans community would have a good chance of earning voter respect.

and then shows spectral embeddings of graphs from that enumeration. It includes a realization as a polyhedron within a 3D eigenspace of a certain Laplace-like matrix.

Josh Turek of Iowa, Democrat, comes out with one of the worst anti-trans ads yet. Not only is it an anti-sports ad, it proposes a ban on federal funding for gender affirming care. That would hit all medicaid and medicare patients, and any ACA federally-subsidized plans as well. Horrific.

I enjoyed El-Sayed's response to the heckler. He essentially articulated exactly the right diagnosis of the situation and schooled the guy on freedom of religion. However, I can only think that MAGA people will just see another insufferable liberal talking down to them.

Santa Anas partially downed a tree on my property overnight. Spent a couple hours this morning with chainsaw and loppers clearing it away. It's one of the few types of yard work I enjoy.

Someone told me today that LLMs are like glasses for the brain. I like this analogy. Cars are like glasses for the legs.

Went down the B-52s rabbit hole last night. Great band! When I was younger, the main thing I heard was their lack of polish, but now their musicality is hitting a sweet spot for me.

Saw a guy on LinkedIn sarcastically defending his right to talk abusively to LLMs. I met this guy once, and needless to say he was extremely unpleasant to deal with in person. But apparently he has zero self awareness.

Opus 5.5 took a 14 page paper produced by Fable which I struggled for weeks to understand and simplified it into a 7 page paper with much easier to follow logic.

Hey so pretty cool that the government is openly trying to intimidate political opponents 3 weeks before the election. Trump needs to be impeached and removed from office

My Bluesky feed has gotten more interesting, I'll say that. It used to be mostly politics. Now I am getting 80% nuanced AI discussion, which is great!

It begins! Pamela's PRO workout serving as a clock, Proteus a random melody creator, and Pixie (a Plaits clone) an instrument sound generator. A minimal set up to generate something interesting. A couple more modules on the way this week that my wife got me for my bday. #eurorack

San Diego friends, there is a Tropical Storm warning for the weekend. Might be good to secure outdoor items. Also high localized risk of flash flooding.

Currently I have several Claude agents crawling the web for info on candidates and propositions in the upcoming California election. California always has a complex ballot, which is one reason I am grateful to be able to vote from home, where I can research each choice before marking a box.

All the state-level choices are clear, but whether to approve some judge, or who should go on the local school board, those are less clear. There's a bunch of propositions as well, most of them a priori unclear I would say.

My wife does not follow politics as closely as I do, but when I got up this morning she asked "Did you hear what Trump said?" referring to his call for Iran to nuke San Diego, where we live. I think MAGA is gonna get trounced this election cycle.

All right, I am going to take the plunge and code up a toy LLM from scratch just so I can understand how they work better.
