This government knows devolution is working - and West Yorkshire is a prime example of that. We know our own areas best, so having more local control over where money is spent will ensure it has the best impact possible in every postcode. https://ow.ly/pxMx5100Nnb

Giving communities a stronger voice in their future is at the heart of co-operative politics. Changes to investment rules will give local priorities greater weight, recognising how housing, transport and skills work together to improve lives.

Co-operative Party@coopparty.party.coop

Next year marks 100 years of co-operation between Labour and the Co-operative Party. Labour MP Becky Gittins has called for Parliament to celebrate that history and debate what the co-operative movement can deliver next.

Today, we’ve confirmed our first Labour & Co-operative candidates for the 2027 local elections. As our electoral pact with Labour turns 100, they’ll champion shared ownership, stronger communities and more power for people to shape the future of the places they call home.

We’re stronger when we own things together. Our first Labour & Co-operative Prime Minister Andy Burnham writes for Metro on putting power back in people’s hands. Co-operative ownership gives workers, customers and communities a real stake and a real say.

Could you be the next General Secretary of the Co-operative Party? 🐝 We’ve got big plans for the future, and co-operative values and principles have never been more relevant or more needed. We’re looking for someone to take the Party forward.

The first Labour and Co-operative Prime Minister is a significant moment in our movement’s history and its future. Thanks to John Healey for recognising this moment, and we look forward to working with you to grow the co-op sector and boost local growth in every postcode. 🐝

I'm deeply sorry to hear of the passing of Peter Dean. He served the borough as a councillor for decades & I had the privilege of working closely with him when we were councillors in Failsworth, doing good things including the refurbishment of Failsworth Pole Gardens & many other projects. (1/3)

He served as a cabinet member covering housing and communities, he always rallied for community power and involvement in everything he did. From being a former firefighter, to working for the late Michael Meacher too, his life was centred on public service. (2/3)

He was also one of the nicest people you could have met. My thoughts are with Susan, Alison and his wider family and friends. (3/3)

Andy Burnham wants to bring fan ownership back to the heart of sport. As reported by Sky News, the Prime Minister is looking to expand support for fan-owned sports clubs. Our latest report set out how fans and communities could have a bigger stake and say.

In the North West, co-operators came together last weekend to make the case for a Community Britain: communities with more power, more ownership, and more say over the places they call home.

From community ownership of important assets like pubs, sporting grounds and more, the ideas discussed today are about turning that principle into practical action. The same too across co-operative and community led housing, energy and enterprise. (2/3)

There is a huge amount of energy and ambition across our movement. Our job now is to harness it and build a Community Britain where power, opportunity and prosperity are shared more fairly. Thank you to everyone who took part today. ✊ (3/3)

A stronger future relies on achieving good growth in every postcode. By working with the government and business, we'll deliver the jobs and opportunities people are crying out for. Great to welcome Dan Tomlinson to discuss how we unlock growth in West Yorkshire and beyond.

It was great to join colleagues in No.10 North this week as we work on the next stages of devolution. For those who have longed believed the centralised and disconnected stronghold in Whitehall and Westminster has held our regions back, it’s a hugely exciting time.

🥳 Congratulations to everyone receiving their GCSE and BTEC results today! The co-operative movement has a vital role to play in delivering future focused reform at every level of education – creating a system which delivers the best for children, parents and workers.

I’m delighted that the first decision of the new Mayor of Greater Manchester, Bev Craig, is to extend free bus travel to all 11-18 year olds from January, significantly expanding the scheme from its current 16-18 year olds. (1/2)

Currently around 50,000 young people benefit from Our Pass, but it’s hoped this is increased to 200,000, a massive boost to open up opportunities, and could save families around £500 a year. More everyday impact policies like this please! (2/2)
