It's been 3 weeks since Congestion Relief Zone tolling went into effect, and the program is working! We're seeing traffic move quicker into and within Manhattan, which benefits all New Yorkers—drivers, bus riders, emergency vehicle operators, pedestrians, and more.

I don’t watch a lot of ESPN games but do they obsess over minutes played for every team? Like surely the record, efficiency, or player success is more interesting.

It’s starting to feel like this Knicks team is figuring out how to play offense together. Ball is moving, shots are dropping.

I started 2025 in Miami and if you didn’t know, they have a growing smashburger scene. I did a quick lunch stop at Cowy Burger and had their namesake burger. I put my thoughts down in the latest DoubleStack. I have another Miami smashburger on deck so sign up. www.doublestack.xyz/cowy-burger-...

doublestack.xyz📍Cowy Burger, MiamiMiami has an unexpectedly large smashburger scene. Specifically in Wynwood, you'll find half a dozen smashburger-specialized spots. I owe a lot of this to the popularity of Ted's (IYKYK). Since my las...

I went to get two breakfast tacos and a coffee. They had a sign that if I got 3 breakfast tacos, I’d get a free coffee. So I got 3 breakfast tacos and a free coffee. What a morning!

I’ve worked from the same building on and off for nearly 11 years. I said hello to the same guy I said hello to back then at the front desk. We spoke about Knicks picks, players, playoffs, and everything in between. It was awesome to say Brunson and KAT are both all-star starters. Let’s go Knicks!

How many AI agents does it take to screw in a lightbulb?

today chatgpt saved me a call to the electrician, or at least a little extra googling. apparently a single tripped gfci outlet in a garage can cut off power to _all_ the other outlets in the garage if they're on the same circuit.

Update on NYC Congestion Pricing (we live in The Zone) + Drove from NYC to VT on Friday 3p. Noticeably fewer cars on the road. Saved us about 20 min + Drove into NYC tonight around 830p (back from VT). West Side Highway was nearly empty. Prob saved us 15 min + I’ll get charged $9 for tonight’s drive

Bringing lunch to the office may save you money but spending $20 at Sweetgreen saves your mind by giving you a break. It’s priceless really.

At a coworking space and VCs are taking calls. Get it done. Raise that round. This is me joking and also a PSA. How much of each is the question.

“Drivers in NYC lost 102 hours to traffic jams, compared to 101 in 2023. These delays cost the average driver $1,826 and the city $9.5 billion, according to the INRIX report.” Congestion relief couldn’t come soon enough.

I’ve fully transitioned off my old host and onto Cloudflare now. I like my old host, never had an issue. Cloudflare is faster and cheaper with a great DX. Workers and Durable Objects just feel unbeatable for modern AI applications.

Forcing the news to properly center stories about urban transportation. 🫡

Charlie Todd@charlietodd.com

This morning I walked from 2nd Avenue to 11th Avenue along 60th street, looking for local news crews. Predictably there were a few that were sticking mics in car windows. I asked, “Hey, want to talk to a pedestrian as well?”

Curious what tools builders use to highlight features in their software? The ones I’m thinking of are like the walkthrough videos with the zoom. Some have writing and effects.

Gather around, I had a version control issue that I solved using CloudFlare. Let me explain, maybe it’s helpful to the #BuildInPublic folks. For Superloops, we scrape your website and competitors to learn what you do and your market. 🧵 (1/7)

What about a non-image file? Let’s say json to populate a report. Not only can it serve up the most recent one but it can transform data from older reports to fit the current UX. So my next.js app can just serve up content instead of processing it. 🧵 (6/7)

All of this to say, when we generate a preview for you now which includes a screenshot, the logo, classification, and summarization of a company. It used to take almost a minute. Now it’s often less than 10 seconds and the front end gets to be real dumb about it. 🧵 (7/7)

Enter CloudFlare Durable Objects. It handles determining the most recent, it finds it in the R2 bucket, and serves it at edge. The logic is centralized and there’s no database or file structure to really maintain. Just a screenshot when I need it. It supports auth too, so it’s private. 🧵 (4/7)

When I want an older screenshot, I can supply a date param and it figures out which one to serve up. When I’m fetching a new one, it establishes a socket with the client making it appear super fast. 🧵 (5/7)

(Simplifying) We scrape and save. We feed all that into some models and use that to generate competitive reports. We monitor for changes and do other things to. Let’s use a screenshot as an example. We take one every time we scrape a page. 🧵 (2/7)

We have these saved in a bucket, and versioned by date. When I wanted to show the most recent one, I had a couple options. I could have the front end figure it out at every location, save some kind of id in a database, or structure my file system in a predictable way. 🧵 (3/7)

I spent a decent amount of time in the past 48 hours migrating to Cloudflare for hosting Superloops. I’m excited to (hopefully) not fight my host and improve build speed. It’s estimating to be cheaper too.

I had a couple of fun burgers in Berlin while visiting. The day before I left I got to stop at Goldies. It’s in a shipping container and I ate outside in the cold. Chefs with a fine dining background seemingly inspired by a new NYC staple? That sounds like me. Was it worth it? I wrote about it.

doublestack.xyz📍 Goldies, BerlinI like to stick to local foods when I travel, but I can't go too long without craving a burger. Even a decade ago, this used to be a real issue outside the US, where quality burgers were hard to come ...
