We've talked about @djbeebot.com as an Advent Calendar – put your AirPods in and we'll tell you *ONE THING* happening in your city we think you'll be into. Sometimes it hits, sometimes it doesn't. Since it's December (um, Advent!) I'll post what I get each day this month....

🎄 Dec 10 -> Today's @djbeebot.com daily rec (Advent Calendar style!) read to me when I put my AirPods in: Today's is... meh. I went to Chinatown w/ 9yo to get dumplings like 2 wks ago & BeeBot used that to infer I want to go back for market. I get it, but this felt like a low quality match for me.
🎄 Dec 11 -> Today's @djbeebot.com daily rec (Advent Calendar style!) as read to me when I put my AirPods in: Today we used our Emergency Broadcast System style-ping 🚨 to tell all NYC BeeBot users about holiday drinks tonight. I X'ed out the info – want to swing by? Dnld app & listen for the ping :)

🎄 Dec 8 -> Today's @djbeebot.com daily recommendation (Advent Calendar style!) read to me when I put my AirPods in. This one is ... below average (not the event, the ping itself). Rationale is low quality and event description is vague. We're getting better every day tho!
🎄 Dec 9 -> Today's @djbeebot.com daily rec (Advent Calendar style!) read to me when I put my AirPods in... event seems pretty good, but description seems a bit lacking. I like that we'e looking out 1-2 days in future now too. Need event attribution tho (where did DJ find this event?). Solid B+!
Okay, amazing @djbeebot.com ping from yesterday! Lemme explain: (1) BeeBot read an email newsletter & lears about tree lighting. (2) BeeBot knows I passing thru WSP is part of my routine (3) BeeBot detects my change in neighborhood & uses moment to tell me about the event. 👍 IRL + context-aware!

“Should they retake power, no one expects Democrats to hold anyone accountable.” — 🤦🏻♂️
What sticks out to me is how absolutely unafraid of prosecution this psychopath is. Part of it is narcissistic personality disorder, but it's mostly the perceived weakness of Democrats. Should they retake power, no one expects Democrats to hold anyone accountable.

Had a cool @djbeebot.com moment last night... was walking past a building near Madison Square Park that had this cool exhibit inside. I was looking thru the windows trying to figure out what it was and then BeeBot perked up in my headphones...

🎄 Dec 3 -> Okay, today's @djbeebot.com daily rec (advent calendar style!) read to you via AirPods... this one was good! Pop-up sauna thing in East Village. We learn about these by reading Substacks (etc) & matching to your prefs (and we always give link/attribution back to the newsletter btw)

Had a magical @djbeebot.com + NYC moment this morning – put on my AirPods and BeeBot tells me about this PacMan pop-up event at Macy's. (AI finds the event, AI matches event to me, AI writes the copy, AI speaks the text... it's magic when it works!)

The BeeBot team and @dens.nyc have been hard at work building the perfect "proactive, ambient, and context-aware" AI companion that chimes in conveniently to share the best intel about your city. It's finally time for everyone to experience the magic of DJ BeeBot 💖
👋 We’ve been working on something new & we’re finally ready to let people play with it. It’s an “app for AirPods” called BeeBot – think of it like a social city guide emceed by an AI-powered radio DJ. I wrote a loooooong blog post (manifesto!) about it here: dens.medium.com/say-hello-to...

To all the peeps testing BeeBot – thank you, appreciate you. The product is in it's ROUGHEST shape that it'll ever be (dup content, rambling, stuff that is not personalized to you) BUT we have a bunch of fixed coming...
... still I LOVE LOVE LOVE that so many of you love it in it's v1 / super wonky form! Your feedback has been a real shot in the arm as this thing has been really hard to make! ❤️ dens.medium.com/say-hello-to...
Whoa, lots of BeeBot love so thank you! If you're using the app, make sure to ADD KEYWORDS. Keywords are what make it go from "it works" -> "it's pretty good".

Mamdani hasn’t even been mayor-elect for a day yet and @dens.nyc is bringing back the peak-era Foursquare energy of NYC innovation and city exploration with @djbeebot.com: dens.medium.com/say-hello-to... I’m excited to check it out!

As an OG Foursquare fan, I'm reallyyy intrigued by this new project from @dens.nyc ... it also reminds me a bit of the very-much under-appreciated Foursquare app Marsbot which also attempted proactive recommendations (and was low-key one of my fave ways to find places to eat when I was traveling)

BeeBot is very much a work in progress. It works, but it’s not great… but it does have its moments of brilliance, which we think makes it worth sharing. Give the post a read, and we'd love to get your feedback (Discord: discord.gg/beebot)
We have a small team working on this (👋 @hopscotchlabs.co) and today it feels like we've walked up to the starting line. And now, back to work... still lots to do / lots to build (but at least y'all know what we're working on now!)

You can download the app today (iPhone only, US only) apps.apple.com/us/app/beebo... It works best in walkable cities. We tried to make it feel like a mix of old school “social software”, enhanced by our ability to use AI to generate a zeitgeist on what cities and neighborhoods are buzzing about.

I always explain ChatGTP to my 9yo as “you know that one friend that pretends to know the answer to everything, even tho they don’t? …”
A little solace for the Anti AI crowd. The greatest weakness of AI is its inability to say “I don’t know”. Our ability to admit what we don’t know , will always govern humans an advantage.
