Want. More specifically, I want the fish my daughter draws. ❤️

After 1.5 years of pouring my heart into my very first game, I'm so excited to finally announce that... Drawquarium is coming to Steam on November 13! 🥹 Draw your own fish, bring them to life, and create your little underwater world, even as a live wallpaper! Like+RT = ♥️ #IndieGames #Cozygames

“It’s too hard to open my new folding phone with one hand!” My hunch: that’s because the engineers tested different hinge stiffnesses, and found that if it was easy to open with one hand people did that, then fumbled and dropped it. The stiff hinge is a device longevity feature. 🙄

Props to the PHP and Ubuntu teams for having updated packages available, right on the announcement schedule. I patched our server via my phone, sitting in the car at school pickup, and we were back up by 16:00 BST. I hope everyone else had a similarly uneventful outage.

Say what you like about major PHP vulnerabilities, but they do allow you to take your sites offline and replace them with over-the-top outage pages (presumably plagiarised) by Claude.

NESTA were very good to me 20 years ago; I think support for ‘innovation’ is important; I work in STEM engagement. But I believe we are all impoverished by the piecemeal reduction in arts and culture provision.

Good point I’ve rarely seen made. Nesta was set up with a £250m endowment (1998 value) to support the arts (as well as science and tech) and it has stopped funding the arts… www.ft.com/content/b7c6...

Every service provider: “Go fully paper-free! Sign up today to ditch the wasteful paper statements that cost us a fortune and instead receive PDFs of A4 letters which are unreadable on your phone screen, via our terrible in-app mailbox.”

Do “24 hour” pharmacies actually exist in the UK? All of the ones listed near me either (a) don’t exist, as in: appear to be a Google Maps data error, or (b) are in 24-hour Asda stores, but close at 8pm.

One of those days where you can’t find the return docket for the jacket you’ve had for weeks waiting for restock, can’t decide whether to shave or make sandwiches so end up doing neither, forget to pick up your car key so the complex handover plan immediately fails, then miss your train anyway.

Anyone else notice that wasps are getting smarter? Thirty years ago you had to coax them into a glass or they'd be in your face for hours. These days they find their own way out after a few minutes.

This should be the end of the Reform party. But it should also prompt a complete overhaul of the polling industry and the Electoral Commission. The priority has to be securing domestic politics from foreign influence. That that’s happening is no longer a hypothetical, it’s demonstrated.

Soooo… this happened.

Soldering a beginner circuit. So far, I’ve had to remove the IC holder (missing some pins), got an electrolytic cap the wrong way around, then soldered the desoldering braid to the board. I’m four components in. FML.

The first question the professor posed to her new invention, the consequenceometer, was: "If I can learn the consequences of decisions before deciding, will I be more decisive?" "No," the device said, "you will probe the consequences in ever greater depth, indecisive." She never used it again.

Woop woop!

Congratulations to @nustem.bsky.social for receiving the Athena Prize for its work promoting equity in STEM and strengthening the research evidence base around effective STEM education and engagement. NUSTEM are also the recipient of the IOP's 2025 William Thomson, Lord Kelvin Medal and Prize. 👏

So we’ve had Jurassic Trek, Horror Trek, Psychadelic Trek, Film Noir Trek and Muppet Trek. “It’s our last season; let’s go round the room and everyone gets to make the genre they like best” is… well, it’s _an_ approach, I guess.

This week, I shall mostly be thinking about this bruschetta I just cooked. Home-grown tomatoes roasted in the air fryer, Alex Gooch sourdough from his Monmouth shop. One of the best things I’ve ever cooked.
