I'm a software engineer who develops games and XR using technologies like C#/Unity and JavaScript/WebGL (while increasingly Godot-curious). I wrote the book Unity in Action! website: www.newarteest.com

Something just occurred to me with regards the Ramaswamy ad: the sexual abuse of a child angle makes it especially despicable, but even without that GOP politicians should *still* be against it. The parents fled from prosecution; so much for "party of law and order".

My wife is traveling for work next week. When she told the kids, my daughter's response was "I guess we'll be eating chicken nuggets and pizza for dinner."

Tangent to the quoted thread, but this post makes me curious if autistic people are less prone to thinking AI is alive? Because they don't model other minds as much as NT people do.

crzwdjk.bsky.social@crzwdjk.bsky.social

We also are pretty good at modeling other humans in our own minds, the chatbot trips that same circuitry. To the extent that "AI" has "consciousness", that consciousness is located entirely within the mind of the user.

Coincidental timing, I just saw a thread with related musings about who is prone to thinking AI is alive bsky.app/profile/mske...

Puff the Magic Hater@mskellymhayes.bsky.social

The idea that we are fundamentally averse to the idea that machines can think is BS. Human beings are actually very much inclined to believe machines can think. Our sci-fi sense of wonder is being exploited by charlatans. We do not accept PR and propaganda that are wholly unsupported by the facts.

This “game” on the White House website, a version of Snake where you play as a white man in a suit and you run around picking up identifiably black, Asian, and Latino men and putting them in orange jumpsuits, might be the most openly white supremacist thing I’ve ever seen the US government produce

man I just accidentally pasted the wrong text when I was searching for something, and Google's AI response started with "You are completely right! blah blah" ugh that sycophantic yes-man shit is especially revolting

Total tangent, but this thread is the third time today where I've noticed a little 1/2 in the corner to indicate a thread of multiple messages. Is that a new feature? How do you do that?

This post is unavailable.

I just saw a profile warning against mentions of 47. I quickly realized it was talking about President Trump, but for a second I thought this person was all "fuck everyone born in 1979!"

A) Yes, this is really stupid. B) I'm suddenly remembering Freedom Fries.

The whole thing is MAGA idiocy. Ontario is a province not a continent or a country. Lake America makes no sense.

Sorry but lol at this one. You can literally go to space and still have to listen to this blowzy old chump saying "quite frankly it's incredible about the Venezuela, and what we do, and it's going to get more and more."

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Trump ranting and raving like a lunatic on a land line phone to astronauts on the space station is an SNL cold open

Clever satire or sincerely needed history lesson? por que no los dos?

Some of our younger listeners may not know this but Dolly Parton's "9 to 5" is a reference to the mid-to-late 20th century custom among middle class laborers of only working within an agreed 8-hour period It's almost unimaginable to our modern ears that they'd waste so many productive hours, no?

I just realized my brain is really weird about the word "panini":

Joe Hocking@joehocking.bsky.social

Somehow I didn't know that, yet I knew the singular "panino". I... I guess I assumed "panino" and "panini" were just different words for the same thing? wtf me

There's actually just one Simpsons quote I use a lot, and it's "I wouldn't have thought so either, but here we are."

Mike Keesey@tmkeesey.bsky.social

The 5 Simpsons lines I’ve uttered most of the top of my head: 5. I am so smart! S-M-R-T! I mean S-M-A-R-T! 4. Thanks for the nose news, neighbors! 3. Hot stuff, coming through. 2. I was saying Boo-urns… 1. Smell you later, Bart! Smell you later forever!

huh, I just got a new credit card and the design is... weird. Like, I guess there's nothing specifically wrong with it having the number on the back and the front is mostly blank, but it looks so odd.

#gamedev #rpg I am working on party movement for my RPG. I have the party following the leader in a line, but I can't decide if it's better to collapse the line back down when the leader stops moving, or have the entire party freeze too. First video shows collapsing...

but but support the troops

🚨 FOX MOCKS SAILORS: Fox News host Joey Jones lashed out at U.S. sailors speaking out about dire conditions aboard the USS Lincoln, calling them “weak” and warning America has “nothing left.”

Seeing this reminds me of a video I saw years ago where a Republican politician from Staten Island was asked some ridiculous thing about Obama (or maybe Clinton? I forget) and his answer was to throw them out of his office.

Molly Ploofkins@mollyploofkins.bsky.social

Reporter asks Zohran Mamdani's former political opponent, Curtis Sliwa, what he thinks about the campaign to stop Mamdani from attending the 9/11 ceremony: “Ridiculous. He’s the mayor. Stop being sore losers.”

Over the last couple days I've started seeing messages (the spammier ones, natch) in Gmail marked with animated profile images. oh nooooooo (fortunately it only seems to be the mobile app for now, not the web client, but who knows how long)

I was just implementing the dirty flag pattern and, despite having done this dozens of times, this time I felt silly writing code like "if isDirty doSomething()". Any other programmers ever have that experience?

I just got a voicemail from an unknown number saying "never fucking call me again!" I assume it's a wrong number, but I'm a little curious if this person is getting spam calls with my number spoofed. Is that a thing?
