We know Trump's lost a step 'cause when he rebranded AI he missed his chance to call it Machine Expertise, then write a million posts saying "Everyone agrees that the HOTTEST THING ever is ME!! Before ME America was DOOMED, but thanks to ME and ME alone we've entered a new GOLDEN AGE of..." [etc]

"No fatties, no trannies, no beardos, no weirdos." Hegseth's vision for the military always sounds like an old gay personals ad written by a fussy Bloomingdale's necktie salesman named Bryce.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Hegseth: "It's worth saying again so the fake news understands it. We are no longer the woke department or the weak department. Simple translation of that -- no fatties no trannies no beardos no weirdos no wimps no radicals. Just warriors."

Every year on this day I recall the awful moment when Frasier's producer Maggie Blanc phoned to tell me that the show's co-creator David Angell and his wife Lynn were on the first plane to hit the towers. A week later the Advocate asked me to write about David for their 9/11 issue. (1/2)

My favorite thing now about my tribute to David is the way it ends with a prediction that has since come true countless times over. My heart today is with everyone missing David and Lynn, or any of the thousands of others who died with them in the attacks or their aftermath. (2/2)

❤️A Poem for Natalie❤️ Of course Trump loves Natalie Harp. Her manner is soothing, not sharp. She reads him his clippings And makes sure his drippings Collect on a washable tarp.

When I wrote for Frasier I never thought about what our apartment set was saying, except that Frasier was pretty posh and had a kitchen that rendered him inaudible to people six feet away. My niece Meaghan Roddy has thought about the set a *lot* and proves it in this terrific article for Dwell.

yahoo.comHow "Frasier" Brought ’90s Minimalism to the MassesThe beloved sitcom’s set introduced audiences to a vision of wealth that was quietly sophisticated instead of gaudy—its showpiece Chihuly notwithstanding.

For a few years I've replied vaguely when asked what, if anything, I was writing. I try to avoid blather I might later regret about books started but not done, done but not represented, or agented but not sold. Today* brought some nice post-able proof that I haven't been idle. *My b'day! So, nice!

Pope Leo tells us that divine mercy is infinite, so I won't presume to guess Lindsey Graham's posthumous destination. But I do know for certain that whether he's now sitting next to God or to Satan, he's grinning obsequiously, slapping his thigh, and saying, "Good one, boss!"

Who’s booking the talent for this thing? Because the Witness Protection Program is missing a swell opportunity for mafia stool pigeons who can play an instrument.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

there were more people in my garage watching the World Cup last weekend

I can report that the episode's back. It was pulled because a KACL scene began with a test of the emergency broadcast system which—God knows why—the FCC now bans for entertainment use. (Talk shows have been heavily fined for deploying it in gags.) The replacement noise is absurd. But the ep is back!

Why has Paramount axed a single episode of Frasier from its streaming service? And why is it episode 2.3 “The Matchmaker,” my TV writing debut and first gay farce? I hear it’s disappeared from other platforms as well. Why! I welcome any inside dish that explains it. Crackpot theories fine too.

🧵The great James Burrows died today. I owe my TV career to him and to the Charles brothers. They read my first book and invited me to write a pilot. The result, Gloria Vane, was about a 1930s movie star. Jimmy directed. What does a great comedy director add that’s not on the page? One example: 1/

That was Jimmy. He had a genius for maximizing the comic potential of every moment. The pilot wasn't picked up, but it got me a job on Frasier— a spinoff of Jimmy, Glen, and Les's Cheers—where I got to work with him a few more times before he moved on to Will & Grace. 4/

Jimmy knew a joke could only surprise an audience once. If something was off en route to a great line he'd shout "Bup bup bup!" to cut the actors off, then go back so a big laugh wasn't wasted on a bad take. Writers loved him for that. And for lots of other reasons too. We will all miss him. 5/5

The pilot ends with Gloria, disappointed in love, nobly embracing the role of mentor to the niece who arrived in act one. As she guides the niece, who drank too much at a party, up to bed, the head of Gloria's studio phones with news. Gloria rushes to take the call, abandoning her woozy niece. 2/

I assumed the niece would just collapse onto the stairs, but Jimmy had Gloria toss her aside so carelessly that she folded over the bannister and slid to the bottom like a sack of laundry. It was a more shockingly callous—and hilarious—illustration of Gloria's lack of maternal instincts. 3/

This is unfortunate, yes, but “pond scum to Washington” may just be the “coals to Newcastle” update we’ve needed for decades.

The Monarch Diaries@monarchdiaries.bsky.social

HAHAHAhaha! they're making the world's biggest synthetic scum pond!!! The coating is a polyurea used inside pipes. It gels in about 3 seconds, making it non self-leveling. The texture is like an orange peel, the perfect substrate for biofilms. www.nytimes.com/2026/05/19/u...

Of course DHS Sec. Mullin is getting rich off addictive gas station drugs. With a name like Markwayne, what kind of graft did we expect? Black market harpsichords?

Ken Vogel@kenvogel.bsky.social

SCOOP from @by-cjewett.bsky.social & me: Markwayne Mullin urged the Department of Health and Human Service to remove warnings from the FDA website about the health risks of the gas station drug kratom. Mullin owns equity in a leading kratom company called Botanic Tonics that could have benefited.

I’m sorry, 22 doctors and not one taxidermist?

The Washington Post@washingtonpost.com

President Trump had 22 medical specialists assess him as part of his latest checkup, according to a medical report recently released by the White House, who also declined to identify which physicians assessed him.

This is nothing. Imagine if he’d gone to the Tonys last night.

LOL if you thought the Trump boos were loud on TV, wait until you hear them from inside MSG. Video courtesy of Evan Roberts from WFAN on X.

Ordure in the court.

BREAKING: In an unsigned, per curiam opinion on the shadow docket, the SCOTUS conservatives allow Alabama to use a congressional map held repeatedly by a lower court to have been enacted with discriminatory intent.

The shots fired near the White House will be so useful to Trump's ballroom arguments that the FBI should rule out political motives and start rounding up parquet floor installers.

“I said to him, ‘This is an enormous privilege, Charles,’ and Charles, a grown king with tears in his eyes, said, ‘It certainly is, sir! I hope for you too.’”

Trump: I’m not a rapist! [music in] “I’m just a boy who can’t hear ‘No!’ Call me the Kisser in Chief! Each time a gal says,’Stop that! Whoa!’ I get a little bit deef!”

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

TRUMP: I'm not a rapist. I didn't rape anybody O'DONNELL: Oh, you think he was referring to you?

"How many more black tie dinners need to end after the salad course before the president's critics forsake their heartless pursuit of accuracy?"

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

BASH: You and your fellow Democrats have used some heated rhetoric against the president. Do you think twice about that when something like that happens? RASKIN: What rhetoric do you have in mind? BASH: That he's terrible for this country and so on and so forth

Trump now says that the image he posted then removed was meant to depict him as a doctor, not as Jesus. To prove his point he posted this screen grab from last week's episode of The Pitt.

It’s nice to know so far in advance what will surely be sci-fi/alien invasion cinema of the 2030s’ most frequently exploded object.

Does anyone else watch Trump and his war cabinet bluff their way through press questions about Iran and wonder how it might play as a musical number based on “The Press Conference Rag” (“We Both Reached For The Gun”) from Chicago? Just me? I thought so. Here’s how I imagine it:

Ever seen a hummingbird nest? Neither had I before spotting this one in the potted tree outside our bedroom. Here’s hoping the DHS doesn’t bust me for running a sanctuary ficus.
