There’s a concept in economics referred to as Total Factor Productivity or TFP. It quantifies the “extra” productivity above the standard factors of capex. It’s structural and driven by a society’s investments in education, infrastructure and regulations. China has it. insideevs.com/news/812811/...

insideevs.comChinese Cars Cost Way Less To Build Than European Ones. Here’s WhyConsulting firm AlixPartners found that, structurally, Chinese EV Manufacturers are on a totally different planet.

AI is our 21st century enclosure movement. Anybody asserting it will generate positive social results need only examine the history of what happens when we allow a tiny handful of people to enclose our commons for their own gains.

The boom & bust cycle of high capex sectors that rely solely on supply/demand market forces is well known. Most mkt economists regard this as simply an inescapable reality. China is trying to use govt intervention to avoid or minimize the bust portion. Time will tell. www.scmp.com/economy/chin...

This article is a bit unclear but it seems to suggest that immigrants who’ve completed their applications and are now waiting for US officials to complete their approval process, can be deported simply because the US is too slow. Creates ridiculous incentives. www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026...

theguardian.comUS immigration judges told to slash time given to people awaiting visas or green cards before being deportedExclusive: Mandatory training for judges also urged them to threaten attorneys who accept too many cases

A truly idiotic article. There’s nothing new about colonialism other than the reemergence of idiots who think it’s sustainable despite history. It’s also ridiculous to expect a multi-decade investment plan into such nearly certain disaster area. It won’t survive Trump. www.cnn.com/2026/08/29/b...

Good to see the recognition of Hyundai’s success. Odd that it ignores their position in *the* most important aspect of the industry, the EV transition. With Tesla committed to destroying its business and the legacy OEMs in retreat, the field is wide open for Hyundai. www.cnbc.com/2026/08/26/h...

cnbc.comHyundai has grown more than any automaker in the U.S. — and it's not done yetThe South Korean automaker wants to keep going by ramping up production at a new $7.6 billion plant in Georgia to capture more sales and market share.

2/ Key thing to recognize is that China’s global competitiveness does *not* depend on future US access or engagement while the US is increasingly obsolete specifically because of its disengagement from China and its failure to invest in its own commons, particularly our public energy infrastructure

I rarely post anything from The Hill, but this is a decent article about a complex and poorly understood topic. There are private sector services used by advertisers to place ads on mobile phones. Porsche is certainly capable of designing and building amazing cars. However, at $170,000 it’s in pretty rarified territory. I’m also amused they’ve kept the “turbo” name despite not having… a turbo. 😎 insideevs.com/news/803270/...

insideevs.comPorsche's 6,000-Pound Electric Cayenne Beats Supercars To 60 MPHDespite weighing almost 6,000 pounds, instrumented testing shows the Cayenne Turbo EV hitting 60 mph in 2.1 seconds, making it faster than most supercars.

The US probably has more forced labor than any other developed nation. Slavery is a major and growing US sector which is being aggressive expanded by the Trump administration. Most US accusations against others, including China, are simply lies & propaganda. www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026...

They're using Rhino Pipeliner 5000, which freezes as sprayed-on curds almost exactly as it hits the surface. Won't flow out, flatten, and self-level like standard epoxy or paint would. Under standing water, the orange peel texture is a perfect scaffolding for algae, bacteria, and general bio scum

We spend twice as much as any other developed nation and less than half the country can even afford healthcare. Not only is this horrific for most of us personally but this enormous economic burden hinders all US business activity and investment. apnews.com/article/heal...

1/ The reporting on this is truly moronic. Hard to tell if the incompetence is rooted in the administration, the media or both. This policy is designed to stimulate investment in non-US agricultural production by either US or foreign brands. www.farmprogress.com/farm-policy/...

farmprogress.comU.S. cuts tariffs on farm and construction equipment to 15%White House aims to spur industrial investment through 2027, with lower 10% rates available for equipment using 85% U.S. steel or aluminum.

2/ This administration is trapped in a 19th century understanding of production and has consistently pursued strategies aimed at isolating US firms to the lowest value roles, like steel and aluminum, in the manufacturing sector.

insideevs.com/news/797350/... Won’t be long before nobody bothers with these stories because “EVs are just better” is as banal as “water is wet.” Still need to spread the word for now, but even Americans will soon know the basic truths.

Seems to me that if the US Congress has determined that $174,000 + full healthcare / yr (which is more like 6 months) is the bare minimum to survive, that should clearly become the new federal minimum wage.

They still do not understand what’s happening. Yes, China’s competitive excellence, increased importance of SW, and regulatory uncertainty are challenges. However, that’s just the beginning. It’s the entire business model that’s shifting. finance.yahoo.com/sectors/tech...

Accurate though incomplete assessment. It’s not just the power train and software that are redefining the auto sector. Those are important product attributes but the entire business model is shifting as well, which compounds the challenge for incumbents. techcrunch.com/2026/03/14/h...

There’s a large and growing body of conservatives who believe immigrants are simply not included in US legal protections. Many (most?) Epstein victims were trafficked from overseas and, by the that logic, the perpetrators would be immune from US prosecution. Ugly stuff.
