It’s been a lean summer for having a stroll through our local bucolic lands, but got a chance to do some foraging this weekend. Nothing like a good walk to blast away what ails you.

2000+ Americans have bought this book on import from the UK. Many of them have told me they love it. Meanwhile, the UK publishing industry: "I am sorry. We can't sell this book to an American audience. They will find it too British." FREE worldwide delivery here: blackwells.co.uk/bookshop/pro...

Happy birthday to the Washington Metro, which opened 50 years ago today with service on 4.6 mi of Red Line between Rhode Is. Ave & Farragut N. System now serves 130 mi. The DC Metro shows that, with good planning & enough investment, the public sector can succeed & build something extraordinary.

This is so good, we wish WE had made it! The history & lunacy of the disinformation campaign around 15-Minute Cities, by 2 “non experts” @iandunt.bsky.social & @dorianlynskey.bsky.social who show how experts SHOULD be communicating. Thanks to the @originstorypodcast.bsky.social podcast. #UrbanTruth

Tomorrow's episode of Bold Politics is so so rare in British politics: real people who are unafraid to just be themselves for an hour because they know they don't have to protect any vested interests. It's time for a clearout of robots in Westminster.

Playing the updated version of Silent Hill 2 and I’m taken back that I had completely forgotten about the in-game map feature. I cannot believe the nostalgia I had for playing this game again didn’t include this one aspect, but right now it’s even more like meeting and greeting an old friend.

I’m fascinated by how we can enhance route planning by considering more subjective factors, in addition to finding the quickest route through objective data. I recognise the challenges which will come with this, but maybe this is might be something where AI can have a meaningful impact over time.

For decades, urban walkers have been treated like vehicles, with mapping tools optimising routes for a single metric – travel time – while treating a dark alley and a high street as identical, if the distance is the same. tcnv.link/txxrMmJ

“Climate-related disasters caused severe economic harm in 2025, with the 10 most costly responsible for damage exceeding €100 billion.” The true costs are MUCH higher & rising fast. They want us to think we can’t afford to change to address the #ClimateCrisis. The truth is we can’t afford NOT to.

Great to see some nice illustrations in the @theobserveruk.bsky.social of places in and around Cardiff. Disappointingly though, for the life of me I cannot work out that map and Ninian Park hasn’t been around since 2009.

When asked whether he would remove the triple-lock pension in the next parliament, Keir Starmer says we must "make sure we've got a clear enough path with resources, funding and ambition for young people to go as far as their talent will take them.” https://bit.ly/4rMliT2

I haven’t even started reading this report and already I’ve gone down a Buchanan rabbit hole. I really didn’t appreciate his influence on town transport planning in the 60s, leading up to present day. This gem just turned full diamond 💎

YES! This little gem was gifted to me recently and will be a delight, I’m sure.

Looking for something to read right now on your morning commute? Here is the first word of our new Map Men book: ‘This Way Up - When Maps Go Wrong’…… In

Great video which explores a road that shouldn’t really exist. Those concrete stilts were certainly a sight - I’ll never look at that innocent looking sign the same way again…

It did take some getting used to, but I think I could warm to this eventually. It definitely felt like RATW’s Machiavellian cousin at times, seemingly necessary now for any new show due to the success of The Traitors. But I take my hat off to the ‘play along at home feature’. #DestinationX

Thanks for the reminder @janemunday.bsky.social. Every summer, I repost this article DROWNING DOES NOT LOOK LIKE DROWNING. To date, I know of FOUR kids who were saved after someone who'd clicked on the link learnt how to spot actual drowning. Take time to read and pass on. slate.com/technology/2...
