“Women and queer people have occupied the front lines of this protest. They are the ones throwing themselves in front of lathis and detention buses, standing as human shields in front of male protesters. The masculine State sees this.” A profile of rage by Nidhi Suresh.

💯. There is no critical mass here. Bluesky predominantly holds space for North American discourse that, sadly, does not lift its head to see beyond its borders.

It is wild the degree to which being on Bluesky (as opposed to Twitter, which feels like walking into the clamour of an Indian railway station) feels like hitting mute on India right now, with the whole nation at a turning point.

“Regardless of the BJP blaming the opposition and foreign powers for spreading the virus of resistance, its virulence will only grow, further deepening the government’s paranoia about the fate that might befall it.”

frontline.thehindu.comWhy is the Modi government so paranoid about a protest? The October 10 crackdown in Delhi, amid protests demanding Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation, points to the Modi government’s fears over the SIR, electoral credibility and mass agitation.

Modi has lost it. "The govt has responded by massively increasing the security presence in the capital. Around thirty thousand police and paramilitary personnel have been deployed, internet services have been disrupted, trains to Delhi have been cancelled, metro stations and roads have been closed."

Just watched Digger. Incredibly good movie. I don’t know what kind of people/critics didn’t like it. My inkling is that it has a mood and humour that can be deeply appreciated by folks from the Global South (and, of course, marginalised people in the imperial core).

“If the coalition in End Times Fascism is defined by abandonment of a shared future, then the response cannot itself be a form of abandonment—not a smaller commune or a more righteous collapse. There’s little difference, after all, between a bunker and a tomb.”

Hilarious that the Hindu right in India is trying to make an issue of protesters using foul language after spending 12+ years calling every Indian woman on social media every variation of 'bitch' 'slut' etc and making receiving rape & death threats a regular-ass part of online life in India.

Democracy is not a staged “election” when the oppressed provide legitimacy to ruling class tyranny. It is when millions converge and physically de-install fascism. South Asia (Bangladesh, Nepal, perhaps now India) revealing what mutual aid and democracy could mean.
