ICYMI, my mythic realist novella about a boy coming of age in an extended family who may refugees from another reality, in a house in Calcutta that may be a dragons' nest. It won a British Fantasy Award and a Subjective Chaos Kind of Award, if that affects one's inclination to read it:

Out now: THE LAST DRAGONERS OF BOWBAZAR, my uncategorisable novella out about Ru, a 'boy from nowhere' growing up in 90s/00s Calcutta, facing the impossibility that his family may be migrants from another reality, & Alice, a neighbour from Chinatown who is pulled close to their secrets. have a little misandry as a treat, i certainly have, but it is not a replacement for political thought or action. ceding half the population to fascists is doomerism. taking 'woman' as a category of people who are politically good is dangerous. gender essentialism is fun but it's not good for us. ok

In my book I argue that IP fandoms are a crucial part of the economic model of the current media monopoly landscape, as fan campaigns drive down the value of creative labor via harassment and disposability, scare artists from taking risks with IP, and give execs a direct fan base all their own

Charlotte@fireantprincess.bsky.social

I think a lot could be said about how fandoms are very much structured to be consumerist without any critical analysis of capitalist production, and how this is the logical end result of that.

Wrightson's spectacular art for CYCLE OF THE WEREWOLF was what first drew me into Stephen King as a child (found the book at the Calcutta Book Fair, needled my parents into buying it), a pretty big milestone for the path to becoming a writer.

I can vouch for Archita, a fellow writer in Kolkata who's sick & struggling with costs to support her mother through cancer treatment, as well as dealing with safety issues & repair on their home. She recently lost her father to cancer, & is dealing with all this alone. Please share widely & donate:

I’m seeing people reacting by pointing out that he’s obviously wrong. I appreciate that, but it’s also a pointless exercise. The problem isn’t that he’s wrong. The problem is that this is normal in American politics — and it’s been normal for a while.
