I wrote a book about curling that is out this fall. I’m very proud of it and it’s designed to be enjoyed by anyone from the most staunch curling hater to the person who just goes to the curling club on a Friday night to “hang out”. You may pre-order it now and I’d be thrilled if you did

EXCITING NEWS! I have written a book about curling, designed to be enjoyed by curlers and non-curlers alike, out on Douglas and McIntyre on October 14. Pre-orders available now: www.indiebookstores.ca/book/9781771...

Episode 86: "15" by Buckcherry, or Discovering Josh Todd. Buckcherry is not a nu-metal band at all, but Bryan was dying to cover them for some reason. They are not good, but their lead singer seems nice, so we try to figure that all out here. podcasts.apple.com/ca/podcast/1...

Mostly thought about the "taste in genre" shifts that occurred in my life and the albums that were the cornerstones of those shifts. Boxer and Asleep in the Back aren't even my fave albums by those bands, Alanis was the gateway to both pop music and the female-fronted indie I'd later love, etc.

I did it chronologically so it's also funny that "Asleep in the Back" is there before Dredg and Thursday because I spent almost all of 2001-2004 listening to that wave of emo/screamo and didn't hear AITB until 2004 but it was absolutely my "indie gateway" album

Narrowest misses were: Modest Mouse - M&A (similar indie gateway band) Broken Social Scene - YFIIP (same) Wye Oak - Civilian (late-era indie gateway) Kanye - MBDTF (had a hip-hop phase that was 100% due to Kanye) A few other (scre/emo) albums that were huge to me (Thrice, Glassjaw, Circa Survive)

Like I'm pretty sure Alligator - Boxer - High Violet is among the best 3-album runs by any band ever, however I'm also pretty sure Boxer is the weakest of the 3 but most people aren't ready for that conversation

They got JF out here posing like a Sunshine Girl and you know what? He’s pulling it off………

It seems quaint now that we do all our banking and race science there, but, nevertheless, it's true: at one time, people mostly wrote jokes on Twitter. 10 years ago, I wrote one about an old asshole and it kinda changed my life. Not his, though. www.cnn.com/2026/10/01/u...

Finally Twitch responded to the numerous angry emails I’ve sent in over the years

The Go Off Kings@gooffkings.bsky.social

Well, we're suspended from Twitch for (???) days. And we don't know what we did to get suspended. And Twitch won't tell us. So. Pretty cool! Thank you Twitch. Also we took down the VOD channel for the time being just in case that counts as "ban evasion." Anyway. Hopefully we'll be back soon???

Obviously jokes aside this sucks and I don’t understand how a platform can just take away people’s right to a living when they aren’t doing anything nearly as wrong as literally thousands of other people

Back with more Taskmaster rankings. I have now watched the 5 existing seasons of Taskmaster Australia and am ready to rank its contestants. I feel like Australia has less GREAT contestants than its UK counterpart, but also less who are outright bad. And once again, I have made a perfect list.

For me, it's not even that it's Carrie Underwood covering it. Pop stars doing cheeky nu-metal covers and nu-metal bands doing cheeky pop covers has always existed. It's more that she's wearing Fred's hat like a costume and her Christian ass is censoring herself from all the swearing

It's kind of crazy that Papa Roach tried to predict the death knell of nu-metal (and got fairly close) and so made a not nu-metal album, which might have worked if it was good (it's not) but HAD they made just another nu-metal album in 2002, it would've greatly helped their 2020s revival case

Episode 85: Papa Roach's "Lovehatetragedy", or An Album Too Soon. P-Roach told anyone who would listen that nu-metal was dead in 2002, and they tried to distance themselves from it. Unfortunately, they hadn't decided where to go and they sophomore slump hard. podcasts.apple.com/ca/podcast/p...

Been saying this for years but I’m also so fascinated at the people who listen to them. It makes no sense. You have so much access to celebrities already. “I only listen to one podcast and it’s the one where 3 celebrities call a 4th”. How does your life suck that bad
