We're delighted that @climatetrunk.bsky.social is out in the world! Conceived by @johnlang.bsky.social, @netzerotracker.bsky.social Lead & Oxford Net Zero Associate, it's a new visual tool to help people understand climate change & the global energy system. Read more below! ⬇️

Climate Trunk is your visual guide to climate and energy, helping you understand what really matters. Check out the Big Picture infographic series and sign up to Climate Trunk for one infographic a week, direct to your inbox: www.climatetrunk.com/big-picture

Only 8 nations voted against the UN General Assembly backing the #ICJ’s landmark climate ruling. Combined, they account for one-third of historical CO2 emissions. The US (#1) + Russia (#3) make up the vast bulk, with generous support from Iran and Saudi Arabia. @daisydunne.carbonbrief.org

As for generation: almost 2,800 TWh in 2025, about as much electricity as the EU consumes in a year. That helped clean power meet all new electricity demand growth globally and nudged fossil generation into decline. h/t @ember-energy.org Solar’s going bananas and this is only the beginning ⚡🍌

No country is too small to matter. Nations that each emit around 1% of global CO2 may look negligible on their own, but together they produce about 30% of the total – roughly as much as China. If they sit it out, the maths doesn’t stack up.

Climate change is bad news for societies built on stability. But the future is not pre-written. Within a single lifetime, the extent of heating – and the risks that come with it – depends on the choices societies make over the next decade or so.

Climate and energy are hard to get your head around, unless you're in the climate Bluesky community. Over the last year, I’ve been building something to help everyone else: @climatetrunk.bsky.social 🌳 One visual a week, for a year. Probably two years now, given I've already drafted more than 52.

Climate Trunk is the project I wish I’d had when I first tried to make sense of all this. It’s a visual guide to understanding climate and energy – designed to hold the #BigPicture together: the science, history, impacts, justice, fights, solutions, false solutions, net zero and you.

Thanks, Tim Urban: ‘Compare knowledge of a topic to a tree. If you don’t fully get it, it’s like a tree in your head with no trunk — and without a trunk, when you learn something new about the topic — a new branch or leaf of the tree — there’s nothing for it to hang onto, so it just falls away.’
