I think it’s sweet that after all these years none of us have told Bruce Springsteen that Atlantic City isn’t even in Nebraska. He doesn’t need to know. He would be so embarrassed. Shh.

My dad has been gone a long time but if there’s one thing I wish I could ask him to expand on it would be his love of Kafka’s The Trial and his belief that it was hilarious. I feel like knowing more about that would unlock him. Ask your parents about their weird shit before it’s too late.

I live in MN where the Senate race is between the current Lt. Gov. with lots of government/policy experience and a former NFL broadcaster with none. The GOP alone keeps nominating people like that for Senate. I'm legit curious why. Is it just because Trump won? Non-heated/shouty answers welcome.

I've always thought of Sean Penn as the Democratic version of Trump but I can't imagine anyone I know voting for him for anything. I'm trying to envision other candidacies. Susan Sarandon? Tim Robbins? Alan Alda is great but I can't see him getting elected.

Ngl, @johnmoe.bsky.social, today's Depresh Mode was like a slug to the chest - but in a good way. I'd never realized how much I was grieving the things I'd lost - or never had - until that context you and Megan Devine provided. Lotta thinking to do now. And I'M glad YOU'RE here.

Charlie (fka Kenny Rogers) has a favorite chair in his new house. Also likes to hop up on the humans’ bed at night, not to sleep, just to stare at them. They’re choosing to see this as progress and not spookiness.

Thank you all for your supportive comments regarding Kenny Rogers. I’ll admit, there were times when I thought about letting another foster family take a turn, which *would’ve been okay*. But then I remembered BlueSky loves him so FINE, I’ll stick it out a while longer.

We’ve had other foster dogs that were easier to love, like Teenie Weenie and The Professor, but Kenny Rogers probably needed us more than any of them.

Had a dead battery and the AAA guy asked what I did for work. Forgot to say potato scientist and told him the truth (mental health podcaster and writer). We talked for a while, he opened up about friends lost to suicide and subscribed to my show. So that was okay too.

When asked what I do for work by a doctor, airplane seatmate, whoever’s making chit-chat, I tell them the truth: writer and podcaster. But then we get into subject matter and it’s a whole thing with too much to explain. I’m going to start saying Freelance Potato Scientist.

(staring at enormous New York studio festooned with ornate gold fixtures) “It’s like if Saddam opened Warhol’s factory.”

Sure, I demand a lot from my students. More than they are capable of. And maybe I yell at them. A LOT. Do I teach them what’s in the lesson plan? Rarely. Will my class help them in the future? Ha. Of course not. But that’s why they call me The Worst Teacher Anyone’s Ever Seen.

Everyone’s fixated on the Cheesecake Factory part and ignoring the Saddam Hussein part. It wasn’t just a gag about Cheesecake Factory. The joke is all about the absurd pairing to illustrate the ridiculousness of the target.

Imagine never having heard *of* Soundgarden and your first exposure is them playing live 15 feet in front of you in 1989. I lived that. (Nirvana was supposed to open but the college’s student government wouldn’t pay them their requested $500.)

Loud Love/Hands All Over were the anti-Warrant. Heavier than God.

Podcast listener said I was a "Charlie Rose level interviewer without the problematic issues." I'll take that one. Put it in my pocket.

Before I ever saw Soundgarden in concert, I had seen many popular 80's pop-metal bands. Seconds into the first song, I realized that this wasn't deedly-deedly fast guitar. This guitar had a job and that job was industrial demolition.

I spot a show on streaming and it looks interesting and in English so I watch and get drawn in. Then I realize I don't recognize any of these actors. They're good but totally unfamiliar. I look it up, this has happened many times and... Canadians. They have this whole other set of people up there.

Works for music too. I had no Charlotte Cornfield existed or Donovan Woods. Now I just love their music. They just put out a song together. No tariffs either.

The thing about You Can See Everything is you eventually realize you can’t trust anyone OR their version of reality. The most believable person is, naturally, a highly skilled professional actor. What’s occurring organically vs. staged? And by whom? It’s disorienting, upsetting, and maybe the point.

I thought it was great! AND I’m kind of mad at it. There was key information that was never raised but that would be in any other documentary. So IS it a documentary? Or an illusion of a documentary? And if it’s THAT, then what the hell does THAT mean? Thumbs up! (or are those REALLY THUMBS?)

A good name for a Facts of Life tribute band is Death Cab For Tootie. A better name for a Facts of Life tribute band is Blair Supply.

Feeling good about having Joe Burrow on my fantasy team. Not feeling as good about starting Vivek Ramaswamy at running back.

Q: “What was your overall reaction to having J.D. Vance at practice?” Joe Burrow: “A lot of people around.” 😬🤷🏼

you don't know how radicalized living in Minneapolis has left you till you find yourself telling an insurance guy on the phone: "They shot Alex Pretti in the back two blocks from my house and they'll do it to you if they can. No I'll pay the extra $12 a month not to be surveilled by Geico."

I’ve been thinking of songs with wonderful music and horrible lyrics. Like biggest quality gap between the two. GREAT songs but: ouch. “Cortez the Killer” - Neil Young “Drops of Jupiter” - Train “Yellow” - Coldplay “Crosstown Traffic” - Jimi Hendrix Experience “Smoke on the Water” - Deep Purple

“A Man Needs a Maid” by Neil is up there too because no he doesn’t. But the desolation in the overall lyrics kind of works.
