I've built a tiny Game Boy TV with SD cart cartridges and authentic Classic controller support. It all runs in the @adafruit.com arcade_machine library for Arduino on a Feather ESP32. Learn Guide updates coming soon.
I turned down two sponsorship opportunities for the podcasts last month and now qualify for ads from my podcast host. I’m not going to enable them, but I’d love it if you supported the show: www.thebootloader.net/support/

New episodes of The CircuitPython Show and The Bootloader are out! Both shows feature The Bootloader's CircuitPython Day 2026 live stream from the Adafruit YouTube channel. @todbot.com and I share some of our favorite CircuitPython things from the last year. www.thebootloader.net/episodes/202...
I was discussing my love of Toyo steel boxes with @brentrubell.bsky.social I like collecting parts for my current project in them for moving between my studio and workshop.
I was just chatting with @johnpark.bsky.social yesterday about making a modern take of the Model 100, maybe using one of those weird narrow 1280x400 LCDs
I use many boards in CircuitPython. Remembering how each board names its pins is a pain. So I slop-ily made a tool to help todbot.github.io/CircuitPytho...
With it you can see how three ESP32-S3 boards differ:
- board.IOx - ESP32-S3 DevKitC
- board.Dx - QTPy ESP32-S3
- board.GPIOx - YD-ESP32-S3
New episode of The CircuitPython Show is out! CircuitPython project lead @tannewt.org stops by the show and we discuss Zephyr, ten years of CircuitPython, & creating a CircuitPython powered GameBoy cartridge. It's official: @todbot.com and I will be hosting a LIVE edition of The Bootloader for #CircuitPythonDay2026! We're on at 3pm EST / 12pm PST on Friday, August 21st. Details here: blog.adafruit.com/2026/07/28/c...
Coming Monday on a new episode: it's the return of @todbot.com! Tod shares how to create your own custom CircuitPython firmware without a build environment using only GitHub Actions. Find the show wherever you get your podcasts.
Coming Monday on a new episode: @todbot.com shares the awesome-selfhosted awesome list and he and @paulcutler.org talk about the homelab movement. Find the show wherever you get your podcasts.
July marks @adafruit.com#FruitJam 's 1st birthday! I've been having a lot of fun creating projects for it. There are tons of things you can do with it, including programming it with @circuitpython.org . Here are just a few examples (incl. my Zork game emulator):

Catch a new episode this Monday! Here's a clip of @todbot.com sharing @smallrun.bsky.social, a new selling platform for makers, and one of his favorite features:
I want to boost this again and specifically highlight the fact that this is entirely open source, including detailed schematic notes on the design and component choice. It's a brilliant piece of engineering that gifts so much knowledge to the world.
This is kind of a rehash, but for those unfamiliar - the main improvements over original GBAs (and the Funnyplaying boards) is crystal clear audio, improved battery life, and a few other QOL improvements.
It's open source; you can find the files & details on GitHub:

WIP on #ColecoVision cartridge reader shield for the @adafruit.com#FruitJam: Success! PCBs arrived, parts soldered and initial cartridge reading @circuitpython.org script works! (I can see the game title in the raw data.) Next up is enhance code to write the cartridge data to an SD card.
New episode! @todbot.com and @paulcutler.org discuss an open source music player, adding textures to your 3D prints, todbot shares his latest creation, a cross-platform serial plotter, and more. Find the show wherever you get your podcasts or visit www.thebootloader.net/episodes/202...
WIP: I'm designing a PCB shield for the @adafruit.com#FruitJam using @kicad.org. It connects a game cartridge from the 80s console #ColecoVision to the Fruit Jam. I hope to be able to read the cartridge and save it to a file on an SD card for starters.
It's been 6 months since I released Zork for the @adafruit.com#FruitJam . If you own a Fruit Jam, you should definitely check it out. If you don't own one yet, Adafruit just released a bunch in their store today so you can buy one. www.adafruit.com/product/6200
My Learn Guide about #Zork and my CPZ Machine running on the #FruitJam has just been released at the @adafruit.com site.

SerialPlotster! I miss the Arduino serial plotter when doing CircuitPython / MicroPython, but it's too greedy with the serial port. I wanted a tiny stand-alone data plotter app, so I built one (w/claude's help). It's pretty flexible on data input and fast to launch github.com/todbot/Seria...
I'm delighted by the resurrection of Neo Geo AES using re-engineered ASIC chips (not emulation or even FPGA) and it'll include analog video out + "low lag HDMI". plaionreplai.us?country=US

Another stupid MacOS 26 Tahoe change making my life harder. In Tahoe, several USB tools I use are broken. They call `system_profiler SPUSBDataType` internally to get USB info. In Tahoe that's gone, replaced by "SPUSBHostDataType", which returns not enough info #macos#tahoe#USB#macos26
I had a fun time chatting with the lovely @paulcutler.org for the latest episode of his excellent Circuit Python Show podcast! Check it out here: www.circuitpythonshow.com/@circuitpyth... or wherever you listen to your podcasts. Thanks Paul!
