#Sonoratober day 27! The vivid colors of the rainbow hedgehog cactus, or Arizona rainbow cactus, make it one of the most strikingly spectacular of all cacti! #Drawtober

You'll also know it by the long, sharp thorns that grow on its dark bark, especially if--like me--you have many times stepped on a bit of twig while walking under the mesquite trees in your own yard, and the thorn was long enough to go all the way through your shoe.

If you are me this will still not diminish your love for the velvet mesquite tree, which is both very beautiful to look at and also ecologically important to the Sonoran Desert.

I think artists and sex workers should have a natural allyship. Both of us are often told we should not be allowed to charge for our work if it is at all pleasurable. Both of us are wanted for what we can do, but our work is considered not worth paying for. We should stick together

#Sonoratober day 25! Think of prickly pear cactus, the most archetypal prickly pear. The one you are thinking of is Engelmann's prickly pear, with its perfect shape and color, and its delicious purple fruit. #Drawtober

#Sonoratober day 24! The brittlebush, a flowering shrub so named for the brittle texture of its stems. Its yellow blooms make it one of the region's most striking wildflowers. #Drawtober

An amazing image from Twin Peaks, Dune, and Fallout star Kyle MacLachlan's memoir "Fictional Selves" that just shows how awesome Patrick Stuart is.

It's @andrewihla.bsky.social 's birthday, and to celebrate you should all watch their independent puppet-and-animation series "Obsidian National Forest", a horror-comedy with heart about the creatures living in a forest where something weird went down! www.youtube.com/watch?v=L0be...

#Sonoratober day 22! The ocotillo is one of the most iconic sights of the desert: a plant of beautiful, towering, thorny stems covered in tiny leaves, and bursts of brilliant red flowers at the tips which give the plants its name, from a Nahuatl word meaning "torch". #Drawtober

Here's a thread of (some of) my art! I do a lot of mixed-media 2-D work about geography, landscapes (and timescapes), evolution, and what I call "deep stories" (parables, mythic, and religious narratives) that people use to make sense and meaning out of their experiences. #ArtSky #SciArt

"Yamuna River (with Taj Mahal Erased)", mixed media on board. Inspired by a photo of the Taj Mahal with the Yamuna River glowing behind it. I wanted to focus on the glowing beauty of the river. Available for purchase.

#Barbarella, #illustration inspired by the 1968 Roger Vadim movie I did for Heroines book published by #Hachette France. An iconic milestone to pulp #SF style, such as the Jean-Claude Forest's #comics. Also I'm a huge fan of Jane Fonda then and now 🛸🛰️⭐ #scifi #pulp #retro #margueritesauvage

I've mentioned before I've updated my contracts to make sure everything in the production of my books is done by humans and not "AI"; if you're wondering what such a thing looks like, here's a clause covering that from a recent contract.

Judge Anderson for yesterday’s Pouchtober. Once it became apparent that I wouldn’t be able to hit as many prompts as I hoped, I decided to just go big on at least one. When I did Judge Death a few years ago, I made a Pouchtober logo and Dredd cover treatment, so I slapped that on here too.

#Sonoratober day 19! The Hohokam agave was not just gathered from the wild, but actively cultivated in fields around the cities of the Hohokam people, and can still be found growing at what are now archaeological sites, even if the fields haven't been actively tended for about 500 years! #Drawtober

#Sonoratober day 18! Emory's barrel cactus, rather than having the usual smoothly columnar ribs, has ribs with rounded tubercules that the spines grow from. #Drawtober
