I’ve reflected long about posting. the constant proof of atrocities in Gaza means I have to call this abomination out. I have Israeli friends, friends from Islamic countries. It has to stop now and those who have perpetrated these crimes have to be held to account. #israel #gaza

I’ve always totally condemned the October 7 attacks on Israel as heinous but what Israel has been and is doing to the Palestinians is abhorrent. We cannot allow ourselves to normalize what is happening for the sake of our future generations.

Really insightful commentary on what could be happening #musk

And when your guests leave, they have to leave their clubs, balls and clothes. And they are not allowed to play the new golf in their own country... unless they pay a US company to build and maintain and administer a golf club in your country. Although only the US can admit members to your new club.

Indeed, you’ve now decided to invent a new kind of golf game. You set the rules and make everyone pay extremely high fees if they want to play. You’ve also changed the rules so that you can only use golf clubs, balls and clothes made in the USA. And you can only have lessons with US coaches…

You even served as club president, and decided on who could join. You have been paying your membership for around 70 years. Then in 2023, you kept on playing and enjoying the course, clubhouse and networking…

It’s mega about maga. Poland thinking about nuclear weapons, UK stupidly dependent on UK for Trident. France offering nuclear umbrella. Trust in US is broken for good. If Americans voted for Trump you have to start to change your opinions of the US.

Well done Mr Branson. Europe and the US need to meet their obligations.

(1/3) It needs repeating: in 1994, Ukraine was persuaded to give up its nuclear weapons to Russia in return for the US, the UK, and Russia guaranteeing Ukraine’s sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity.

Will Vance’s speech go down as the end of US leadership. Kind of think so. And the moment that Europe got its act together.

Lewis Goodall@lewisgoodall.com

Have written about JD Vance’s Munich speech. In what may prove to be the biggest week for European security since 1991, it’s time Europe listened to what Trump and his Vice President are telling us. open.substack.com/pub/goodalla...

Based on the actions over the last two weeks, one has to ask whether the world can ever trust the USA again. Broken international agreements, critical domestic and international funding stopped, the loss of rights. What do you think folks?

🧵 IS NOW THE 1930s? I’ve been poring over a fascinating 1938 British atlas that reveals the hidden forces reshaping the pre-war world. “An Atlas of Current Affairs” shows how eerily similar the geopolitical drivers of the 1930s were to today’s...

1/ 🧵FUTURE DIPLOMACY: After intense 7-hour talks in Ankara, Turkey just achieved what months of international mediation couldn’t. An object lesson from East Africa in how deep relationships trump traditional power politics in today’s world.

1/ 🧵 HOW DO DICTATORS SURVIVE? In 1990, I was visiting Damascus. I’d been tasked with delivering – among other things – a case of whisky. Back then as the USSR crumbled, Syria’s leader – Bashar al-Assad’s father – pulled off a masterful pivot – trading support in Kuwait for control of Lebanon…

It will be fascinating to see what happens in Romania this weekend. Geogescu came from nowhere and his push has been on TikTok. If people are losing trust in media, how can they ever trust social media?

Looking for community feedback. What can the institutions that were set up after World War II to never let it happen again do to regain the confidence of the world? As #Harari says in his latest book, those institutions are what distinguishes us from the monkeys!

Have not seen much on here on Sudan, so I'm amplifying this horrific report that shows the number who are killed is higher than previously estimated. Adding here other writing to read to understand this war that has displaced over 11 million people; the highest displacement crisis globally. 🧵

More than 61,000 dead in Khartoum state alone, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine's Sudan Research Group finds: 26,000 of them killed as a direct result of the violence. Leading cause of death across Sudan is preventable disease and starvation. www.bbc.com/news/article...
