there is a major difference between the department staff members that ensure everything runs as smooth as possible while earning $50k and the assistant vice provost of artificial intelligence integration affairs earning $600k. it's the latter that should be cut, and not the former

There appears to be a trend of more colleges cutting staff and administrative positions in recent years. While faculty unions and conservative reformers celebrate, the implications for students aren't quite as clear. I appreciate the shout-out to my recent research in this piece.

I'm thinking of switching my Invertebrate Zoology Course to a full Socratic method, high participation type class. Anyone have experience doing this with a info dense class? #EvoBio 🦑 🐙

My initial thought was less exams and quizzes and more of grades weighted to in class participation. More accurately I mean info dense and concept light: more Icthy, Ento, Vert type classes.

We had to say goodbye our little bundle of joy on Friday. Lucy was the kindest and gentlest soul that ever walked this earth. She was our baby, our work buddy, our playmate, our reluctant travel companion, and both our bedtime and wake up alarm. She was super shy, but quickly won over everyone.

Sixteen years ago, the Supreme Court decided that corporations are people under the First Amendment. Today, sold-out politicians block progress on all fronts to appease their corporate donors. Citizens United is among the worst decisions in history. It corrupts our system every day.

The anti-Semitic mass shooting in Australia will cause a national conversation and policy change. We know this because the 1996 Port Arthur massacre led to significant restrictions on guns. The shooting at Brown will do nothing. We know this because it occurred on the anniversary of Sandy Hook.

Learned today that “Galápagos” comes from a Spanish word for tortoise, meaning that “Galápagos Tortoise” is, in fact, a tortology

Thankfully, a person of interest is in custody.

I’ve been staying off social media this month, but this one hurts too much to stay silent. Brown’s campus is a sacred place for me, especially the science quad. It maddens and saddens me that this happened at a safe place of learning. I hate that the students will now live with this trauma

Our federal tax dollars are being used to fund a network of government social media accounts that pump out disinformation 24/7. Even during a government shutdown. It’s definitely not essential work.

I appreciate, "A PhD is marathon, not a sprint," but it's not a race at all. To me, a PhD is a hike (with no trails) up a tall mountain in the distance. The end goal is clear, but the journey is long, dynamic, unique, entirely your own, and itself more important than any milestone.
