No joke. I think this is the most important video I have ever seen about mobile games. This guy breaks down how this game psychologically profiles you, and makes the game harder or easier in order to show you ads

didn’t realize for four episodes that the male assassin in Slow Horses season 6 is the same actor that’s Cyril Karn in Andor: Kyle Soller.

if a restaurant takes walk-ins I always walk-in. The tables reserved for walk-ins are often the better, more visible tables anyway; restaurants don’t want to hold a visible table without a customer because it makes the space look unpopular. Just walk in. You’ll be fine.

So it turns out that people have been using AI to create tons of fake restaurant reservations that they don't intend to use (very few restaurants don't allow you to get a refund if you cancel more than a week in advance). I've seen restaurants try to handle this a couple ways.

THE ODYSSEY's instantly, predictably enormous success is Exhibit #32176 that the right wing's grievance-farming operation is not some great American cultural shift. Most people don't give a shit about their petty crusades.

explained how eater.com works to a gen z colleague today whose primary source of restaurant recommendations is google maps. They were surprised by the idea that the Eater writers are not paid by the restaurants. anyway the travel agent thing is true, hire my wife: www.timewelltraveled.co

Saw a meme of GenZ baffled by how pre-internet travel worked, and realized we’ve crossed an enshittification threshold where IRL services that once seemed outdated, like travel agents, now seem luxurious: “You meet with a human expert who plans out your whole trip with you” sounds incredible now tbh

new bevy release is neat, bsn is a nice ergonomic improvement. Every time I fiddle with it over a weekend it’s better than the last time, and the showcase stuff in their discord has gotten so much more impressive over time.

genuinely I don’t understand people who argue that AI slop in software engineering is OK because that problem existed before. If something makes a problem worse, that thing is bad. The fact that the problem existed previously at a lesser magnitude does not absolve the thing that made it worse.

868-BACK has a difficulty modifier called “Vibe progging!” where it ignores which ability you want to use and picks a move at random from the set of valid moves. Incredible.

I’m not really sure what the point of mastodon is if there’s not a strong sense of specificity of space. What’s the point of having separate domains if they don’t each have their own norms? It’s not clear to me what the value prop is of federated administration without per-domain culture.

it sure does seem like public sentiment for AI is incredibly low, but a portion of the tech industry is either unwilling to accept it or unable to recognize it

Today, we’re excited to introduce Attie, currently as an invite-only closed beta. Attie is the first agentic social app on atproto. It’s something completely new — an experiment in making building on the protocol more accessible.

a lot of people who love genAI love it because they were incapable of creating anything, but there’s a second group that was always capable, who like genAI almost exclusively because it gives them the sensation of being in control of an other, engaging with it as a type of synthetic dominance

sitting in IL-9 I could not possibly overstate how much my belief in this space has cratered over the last week

This place drove people away and that was very short sighted in terms of wanting an oligarch free social media site.

I know that everyone is paying attention to IL-9's congressional race but locally I just want everyone to look at Adam Braun's 10% of the vote after Draftkings gave his campaign $160k. He worked at a law firm representing Draftkings. Fuck that guy. www.chicagotribune.com/2026/03/17/2...

Voting in the IL primaries has made it even more apparent how necessary ranked choice voting is. Serious question, how do we make this happen, IL??

it’s wild how much attention there is on IL-9 from people who think the race is two people when there are 15 candidates and at least three are experienced, local, and progressive. This election needed Ranked Choice Voting so, so badly

there’s a lot to learn from Mamdani and one of them is “Ranked Choice Voting gives candidates an opportunity to demonstrate their skills at coalition-building during the race”. And in a RCV scenario, Laura Fine has no chance!!

GitHub with its one 9 emailing me about the release of the Copilot CLI, lol, rofl even. I don’t want a Copilot CLI I want @github.com actions to not have multiple outages in a 24 hour span. GitHub really seems to be on the path to collapse.

Polymarket logic: if you flip a fair coin and 4 people call Heads and 1 person calls Tails the odds of it landing Heads are 80%

When someone says „Scientists do not want you to know“ you can dismiss everything from there on. Scientists want you to know. They are desperate that you know. They can’t shut up about what they found out and want you to know.

back when I worked at Jackbox Games, we realized that people who were using Amazon Fire TVs would launch our games and then never actually hit exit at the end. The games were actually silently running in the background, continually reconnecting, continually refreshing their room reservations.

We figured out how to identify which connections were coming from Fire TVs that were getting stuck, and after making sure they were truly idle, we ... just sent those devices a message that had no end, continuously sending junk data until the process hit the OS's memory limit and crashed.

It was one of my favorite metrics graphs I've ever seen: a graph showing that I had, by design, crashed tens of thousands of Fire TVs in just the right way so that they self-updated the next time people went to play the games, and the broken version disappeared from our metrics forever.

After some research and testing we were able to recreate the bug, but we realized something rather stupid: because the bug kept the app running and making network connections, the app never shut down. Since the app only updates when it's shut down, it wasn't capable of receiving updates.

We had never thought of making a remote killswitch to tell the app to shut down, so we had no way of sending it a "please shut down in order to update yourself" message.
