nearest theater for You Can See Everything is an hour away so I guess we’ll see if it’s worth a 5 hour commitment. will report back

for real I am in danger of Valve sucking up all my free time entirely for October between Deadlock and my Steam Frame that arrives tomorrow

just finished Crow Country last night. as someone who usually steers clear of “horror” games due to my spooking easily, I’m really glad I tried it as it is a.) not that spooky and b.) completely floored me with its ending message.

just got back from like 10 days in Spain and it’s a bummer not being able to just walk or take public transit everywhere, America really is a country where cars are mandatory for any decent standard of living outside of major cities.

never stops feeling bad to find out a game studio you've admired has switched gears to going all in on using gen AI for future production... despite their success being built on the backs of games that didn't do that...

"but the Derivative Machine will save us so much time and resourc-" buddy I don't think a dollar saved here will result in a dollar earned from me. more like 1 dollar on AI = -∞ money from people like me. I'm no mathematician but those finances look shaky to me.

War as a moral metaphor is limited, limiting, and dangerous. By reducing the choices of action to “a war against” whatever-it-is, you divide the world into Me or Us (good) and Them or It (bad) and reduce the ethical complexity and moral richness of our life to Yes/No, On/Off.

How did they make multiplayer mode for Slay The Spire 2 the objective Best Way to play the game? They did it on their first try, how did they do this… this is not a hypothetical, I need factual answers.

Having the ability to do support builds now for the sake of your team’s survivability is also cool, all the “another player gets this thing but not you” cards are super neat. The variety this system creates is super interesting, again I ask How Did They Get It Right The First Time?

Multiplayer specific cards are also deeply interesting. What do you mean I can make an Osty or Forge for each of my pals? Is the game telling us to do a three-stack Regent team? Signs point to yes (Regent best character btw).

For real, drawing on the map with your pals and fighting over which elites we hit that match the number of shops we each is awesome. particularly when one of your said pals always takes Greed and therefore needs the next shop to be the next stop.

I loved every game that Bluepoint Games touched, the Demon’s Souls remake was and still is a visual masterpiece. It is a generational blunder on PlayStation’s part to shut down one of the best studios they ever had.

Jason Schreier@jasonschreier.bsky.social

BREAKING: PlayStation is shutting down Bluepoint Games, the studio responsible for modern remakes of classic games such as Demon's Souls and Shadow of the Colossus, Bloomberg News has learned. A shocking end for a well-respected studio.

Wild how far one of the mainstays of the game industry has fallen in only a few short years. It is also, unfortunately, the game engine I have 7+ years of experience in…

my first MOBA is Deadlock and I’m trying to not be actively sucked in. seen what League did to my friends, don’t wanna suffer the same fate. …but it’s so fun to play…

Every Super Bowl ad is for the door in the forest. It’s annoying. “You must walk through the door.” Yeah thanks, I know that already. I dream of the door every night

Malo Mart, my beloved. We need more lil guys in newer Zelda games, Malo should be a shopkeeper in every game just like Beedle is. Malo >>> Beedle!

whenever I go more than a couple weeks without working I have the strongest urge to completely change how my computer is set up upon my return

“hmmm, yes, let’s change all my apps to be in light mode and reorganize all my files to be Something Different.” - thoughts of the utterly deranged (me)

So I guess I got to play Clair Obscur 33 now huh? This must be what it felt like for my friends when Astro Bot won GOTY last year and I was the only one in my friend group that played it...

I cannot overstate how happy I am to see the @kingdomsofthedump.bsky.social team be recognized for the gem they have crafted, I hope they sell 1 million copies due to help from coverage like this.

Jason Schreier@jasonschreier.bsky.social

Kingdoms of the Dump is one of the year's most charming RPGs, an Earthbound-inspired game set in a world made of trash, where you fight in landfills and heal with moldy sandwiches. Which is fitting — it was made by two janitors. This week's column: www.bloomberg.com/news/newslet...

I’m not even a 3D modeler and this is a dead simple choice: throw Blender $5 if you can to help keep the dreams of indie artists financially acheiveable!

Makkon@makkon.bsky.social

Blender is struggling. it's the best piece of 3d software on the market, and it's free. I'm not going back to autodesk. please donate if you can! fund.blender.org

Just got my backer Steam key! It’s crazy to think of how long I’ve waited for this game, I remember waiting for the game’s early art and music concepts to drop on Roach Games’ Instagram way back in 2019 when I still had an account. I’m very excited for Garbage Day tomorrow! 🗑️🪳🫧🎻🧥🐀

Gabe Cube is real! Also, the Steam Frame existing gives me hope for a future when Meta no longer dominates VR, this space can only improve by having competent competitors appear, which Valve certainly is.

It's a hectic week for me wrt Steam Next Fest but nothing could keep me from the Goodnight Universe demo. Before Your Eyes was amazing in ways that confound, and the next game from the devs who made it feels very much like a spiritual successor, check it out! store.steampowered.com/app/4012220/...

Started Hades II this week after patiently awaiting its 1.0 launch. As expected, the roguelike gameplay is awesome and a true upgrade over the first game, but I'm loving the writing most of all.

I expected the same sort of thing of thing in Hades II for Melinoë's story, which would have been fine, but I'm loving the bold move of having no less than the fates of all gods and Titans coming down to the actions of the Melinoë, rather than just trying to escape your dad's house like Zagreus.

It's pretty ambitious writing to even attempt this sort of story given the five thousand year old legacy of stories you're building upon, love to see it. Can't wait for Hades III being about usurping Chaos, destroying the very universe itself and then recreating it from first principles.

Zagreus's story in Hades was self-contained; it could be read as just another short story myth like that of Narcissus or Ariadne or whatever, where it being unknown to the player makes sense "canonically" as just one of those many stories about Greek figures that got lost to time.

More specifically, I need to take a risk on more games. This ratings graph kind of reads to me that I don't play games that I'm not 90% sure I'm going to enjoy, which isn't really aligned with my goal to be a Games Enthusiast™ who appreciates all kinds of games. I can't appreciate what I don't play!

the movement system is the best I’ve seen in a 2D game, genuinely the most fun I had was just moving through areas quickly by very skillfully using the movement options you unlock. One flaw: Silksong needs a SM64 Koopa The Quick footrace minigame, I would KILL for that.
