Are you gonna support this longer than you supported the controllers? Or the Steam Link? Or is this going to be another bit of Valve hardware that just gets brushed away after three months?

the steam controller actually did pretty well and got brushed away because scuf (i think?) sued them for "patent infringement" over the back paddle inputs, which they somehow won. valve was basically forced to cancel the original steam controller. everything else was cancelled because they FLOPPED

If only they had some game title to show off this new hardware... something that could get lots of attention and help them gain traction while also living up to expectations.... if only

I'd pay a whisker more than console prices for this, but I'm a bit spooked by "competitive with a similar spec PC" talk on the pricing. Definitely won't be dropping four figures on it, if it comes to that.

Gah you didn't actually just announce the long awaited 'Deckard' headset with LCD visuals and 110 FOV (and no AR at all, which is a LOT of fun..)?! Bah..... been waiting sooooooooo long for you Valve, so so long..... (since buying the ((brilliant) Index actually....) 😠

God i want that steam frame so i can get this damn meta headset outta my life... Valve, give us a reasonable price on this VR headset and my wallet is yours! (Also eyetracking, big win, headset may not be smaller than the BSB2 but i'm sure as hell more likely to buy this than the BSB2E)

Please, please, PLEASE make this available in the Brazilian market with localized prices! We love you to death, Valve, but having to import the Deck from shady stores with ridiculous prices isn't easy. I need that GabeCube with 2 Steam controllers 😭

Okay I love the new improved Steam Machine, but please figure out faster user switching on SteamOS, it's way too slow as it is (my understanding is because of env swapping, which is of course heavy handed, not sure if there's much room for improvement). 🥺 Awesome announcement, great work y'all! 🍻

for the Frame, they've said they want it to be less than the Index. which is not very specific especially since there were 3 different Index bundles, and one of them included lighthouses, which Frame doesn't need. so most likely it'll be either less than $999, or less than $749.

perfect timing too just after I buy a PSVR2 to replace my bound-to-fail-with-no-replacement-cable-to-be-found Reverb G2

not sure if you know, but you won't need to run vrchat on ARM. Frame can play x86 games in standalone mode despite having an ARM CPU thanks to the FEX emulation layer. apparently it works pretty well for the games that journalists tested, but none that i saw mentioned about vrc.

Like i am able to run alot in similar pipeline on mac with VMware Fusion where everything translates from windows x64 to osx arm functions but EAC doesnt work (and based on what i seen it doesnt work for CrossOver either, which has same devs as Proton)

hmm, interesting. i actually know nothing about vrc's anticheat, so i guess that is a concern. hopefully it will work. but either way, at least the pcvr streaming sounds like it will be excellent. so for me at least, no standalone vrc wouldn't be a major loss. in fact i'd prefer pcvr vrc anyway.

Journalists tested on video only pcvr streaming yet, no standalone showcase (but for obvious reasons not all cpu functions/libraries got into FEX yet, and thats why developers will need to report what they need to make their games work if i got it right) Bigger question how FEX deals with cpu id

Biggest thing I want for the Steam Frame. Is a way to make it wired to my pc & able to use my bay stations. I hope there's going to be an option to swap out the head strap & make it a wired connection. Even if I have to pay an extra $200 for it. I really hope that's an option with the add ons.

PLEASE VALVE Please have a addon or something to allow the Steam Frame to work with our Lighthouse trackers still, theres such a big eco system and we would love something official so that we can continue using the Knuckles and our full body trackers

It be nice if we can get something official though, so people dont spend an extra 300 something dollars for a tracker. Hell Im pretty sure Valve doesnt even need to make an Addon, just have the cameras track the base stations, they're big ass IR emitters

The Steam Frame looks amazing! I would love to know if you can still use lighthouses for full-body tracking along with it. I know it doesn't use lighthouses, but my trackers do. It would be helpful to confirm whether they can be used together, same as I use my Quest Pro #valve #steamframe #steamos

Not natively (I don’t think it has the laser sensors), but it’d be a software thing and a 3d print away I think. Just like getting fbt to work with a quest where you stick a tracker on the headset and it handles part of it, and the trackers and lighthouses handle another part.

Mainly, I just wanted confirmation that having the lighthouses running in the same playspace as the Frame wouldn't create issues. I currently use the method you described with my Quest Pro.

Built in LiPo batteries are basically the same but not consumer replaceable (in theory). What's keeping you from using rechargeable AA batteries? Maybe they can even be charged in-place?

It's been so funny to see the console people in the comment sections of articles being all like "yeah but it's going to cost too much and probably doesn't do 4k or have good specs" Imagine being so attached to console gaming you lose the ability to google publically available system specs 💀

I notice there are no straps on the controllers so we wont be able to throw things in game as intuitively as with our Valve Knuckles. Any chance we'll be able to use the Steam Frame with our Valve Knuckles controllers? You made by far the best controllers already. I hope we can keep using them.

Man I'd love to see a steamdeck refresh at some point too. I feel like all this hardware is really giving Valve more direct experience and a path towards stability in designing OSes/firmware. Very excited to see all this drop. I'll be looking back into it.

I'm excited because 1) if the price is right, these specs are amazing 2) personally don't care about color passthrough 3) It runs on usb 2.0 bandwidth and tech journalists can't catch the foveated streaming 4) open eco system, and no meta bullshit 5) x86 games and android apps, standalone.

6) I want to actually afford VR, not watch it constantly kick above 1k dollars with specs that won't make me cry, and if valve was pushing for lower price this could be it. (Also fuck meta, don't care if their price is low, I hope I don't have to explain why someone would avoid them)

Because, even though I’m a VR enthusiast, I don’t have the space to dedicate a room of my apartment for a full-blown VR setup. That said, I personally don’t give a toss about AR. That’s for the ardent tech bros.

But even so, just go buy a Quest 3?! Probably for way less money, essentially the same specs (eye tracking is nice tho…) you don’t need to dedicate a room to Quest btw. And I use mine lately pretty much exclusively for playing Arc Raiders… 👊👊👊!! Streamed via Virtual Desktop..

weird how many people completely missed the extension port that was specifically mentioned as supporting things like color passthrough cameras, face tracking, etc, for the people who want those (not everyone does). they considered OLED, but with the lenses they're using the image would be too dark.

I mean it's not weird.. it's just that if they're not there then they'll never be coded for.. nobody is gonna code a game/experience that requires a third party camera passthrough accessory.. we go straight into enthusiast territory. I thought I'd not like MR but tbh, it's an absolute blast..

A: price ain’t out yet bud. valve is known for competitive pricing. B: OLED isn’t always better, they did it bc of light reflection iirc. And quest 3 doesn’t use foveated streaming. AND this is a smaller form factor and uses your steam library. And it’s good for emulation and non VR games.

Because other than just having some app SDK that our meta overloards are greatfull to give us, here I can press a button and have a full Linux environment to do whatever I want, while it also has the ability to run my windows programs or experiments natively out of the box.

Indeed and this is cool, def.. but.. LCD screens in 2025?! No pass through cameras.. less FOV than the Index.. barely better specs than the oh-so-capable Quest 3 of which when streaming via Virtual Desktop is a marvel.. it’s simply not worth upgrading from a Quest 3..

I would compare the quest and frame to phone and a laptop. Phones are computation beasts today, but they only allow apk apps and some customization on the decorations and stuff. A laptop can run whatever system you want and has barely anything keeping you from doing what you want.

The Steam Frame, being a real PC, seems like it has the potential to be a really amazing platform for VR and 3D user interface (3DUI) research. Is there any possibility that dev kits might someday be available to people who don't intend to ship games on Steam - say, academics?

Valve, guys, c'mon. Release the Frame and the gamepad. I love my index but my dog keeps tripping on the cable when on zoomies and while i love my xbox gamepad, ... well the MS apps are just always in the way.

yes! we knew a lot about the hardware beforehand thanks to lots of leaks and datamining. we even knew the exact date of the announcement a day or two prior. we also know that HL3 is coming. not sure when, and i haven't kept up with the news on that as much, but it sounds like it could be soon (lol)

I mean, the Steam Controller itself, would be fantastic if it could be separated into 2 joycons. But hey, they seem to have thought about the gyroscope use for aiming, I hope it's good. I love that option in games.

Okay. Anyone who has beef with Valve making another Ouya disaster and tries to make ANY ANY stupid bad jokes about Valve becoming the next Ouya......GET OUT! Valve does still make games, this has been a thing before. They are not failures. Also, TF2! Endeth! Nuff said!

If Valve Loves VR like they have claimed to in the past they would have brought Half-Life Alyx to #PSVR and #PSVR2 a long time ago. The high pricing of scarce components is going to force prohibitive pricing of the Steam Machine and SteamFrame for a lot. Valve please port HLA TO #PSVR2 now.
