I’ve seen things you people wouldn’t believe. AUD vol on a 40 handle. Crypto basis swaps. BNPL burrito taxis. Cloudwatch bills the size of a phone number. Memories, tears in rain, etc. etc.

it happened again this time I’m pitching an opinion piece on prediction markets and the CFTC

me when anyone asks me why I’m pitching a 2000-word feature on muni-bond ballot measures to the student newspaper

$PD 2.5x-ed since this post my shitposts have more alpha than my regular posts, part one zillion

At some point soon it’s going to be cheaper for a big $PD client to buy the company outright than to keep paying their seat-license bill

to be fair, this is a completely sensible way for UBS‘s equity flow desk to lay off the gap risk on the swap they’ve written to CSOP, but I 100% guarantee you that nobody buying the autocallable is doing it because they’re thinking “oh yes I want to sell that gap risk”!

either the WSJ needs to start using the Oxford comma, or Malcolm Gladwell has invented an exciting new variant of the winter olympic biathlon

An absolutely enormous lunar meteorite. like, yes, I would very much like a chunk of the moon sitting on my bookshelf!

question for the audience: if you were ultra rich (let’s say $25M), what completely frivolous thing are you buying?

whomst amongst us, way back when I was desk clerkin' I asked my boss "who's this Louis Dreyfus guy we printed a bunch of cotton trades with, is he your sales coverage at UBS?" he very kindly did not make fun of me for this

Being asked by compliance if Sonia Steepener is a client. How’s your day going?

SOURCE REQUEST: do I have any journos or media-adjacent folks who I could talk to for a straight-news story about how media institutions are handling challenges to First Amendment rights? My deadline is tomorrow (16-Oct); if you have time, drop me a DM.

Non-US journos v welcome as well (especially FT folks, I know a few of you follow me)! It'll be interesting to draw contrasts between US and overseas regulatory regimes

apologies to everyone who followed me expecting erudite, thoughtful posts about structured products, FX vol, and financial history

look, "we want to improve our credit profile, fundamentally or by structuring, so that we can tap buyers with higher ratings hurdles" is a cromulent treasury goal, but this graf fires the neurons in my brain that remember CPDOs and the aggressive rating arbs of 2005-07 www.ft.com/content/4ffa...

visualizing a GB200-backed SIV issuing AAA-rated weekly ABCP (yes I know, issuers these days are smarter about matching the funding term to the assets, no issuer would be crazy enough to take the rollover risk just to save a few bps… good lord CRWV's credit curve is steep, that's a lot of bps…)

New from me at The Skyline View, Skyline's campus paper: San Mateo County Measure V asks voters to OK $848mm of bonds for new buildings at SMC's three community colleges. What would it fund; who's for/against; & what would it do to the district's AAA/Aaa: www.theskylineview.com/news/2026/10...

In the climactic scene of Trading Places, the front-month FCOJ contract trades from 102 to 142 to 23 in a single session price limits in the OJ futures in 1983 were 5 cents, expanded to 8 in December ‘83 (Also the second month never moves!)

it is an utter travesty that the surviving entity of the Skydance / Warner Bros Discovery acquisition is not called "Disco-Dance Brothers" i will not be taking questions

5.25% per year for ten years is pretty good money!

i challenge you to post one optimistic take or belief today on bluesky this needn’t be toxic positivity, just good ol’ run of the mill optimism/hope in the face of a torrential downpour of doom

Folks absolutely loved buying 10s on a 5 handle last time we were up here in Oct ‘23, IIRC it printed >5 once intraday and then bounced like a superball let’s see if the buyers come out of the woodwork again

🎵 she’s eating paper, I can tell by the crunching coming from the other room 🎶 🎶 and even though I plead with her to stop, there’s nothing I can do 🎵

sticking a flag in the ground: we're gonna go 25 this afternoon, Warsh won't be able to muster consensus for a hold; and the long end is gonna rally

Current niche annoyance: Cloudwatch dashboards are comically bad on mobile. It's not even the widget reflowing; Cloudwatch's own controls don't render properly either! God forbid I want to look at some metrics on my phone instead of having to pull out my laptop

Thursday palate cleanser: meet some residents of the Wildlife Images Rehabilitation Center in Grants Pass. The Center takes in animals that can't be released into the wild, and runs an animal hospital and wildlife education programs as well.

Is Safran still printing TARFs in enough size that they're moving the EUR vol market? Haven't heard much about them lately.

New blog post: TARFs have been blowing up customers (and banks' exotics desks!) since at least 2007, so why are FX derivatives sales desks still printing them? And why are corporates still doing them? (Bonus: blind item!) josh.sg/2025/08/elev...
