The urge to make and build seems to be an almost universal human characteristic. It goes way beyond meeting our need for survival and seems to be the expression of some deep-rooted part of being human.
In the external scheme of things, shining moments are as brief as the twinkling of an eye, yet such twinklings are what eternity is made of — moments when we human beings can say ‘I love you,’ ‘I’m proud of you,’ ‘I forgive you,’ ‘I’m grateful for you.’
"AI" is just glorified computer software programmed to run specified tasks with specified parameters.
Like a washing machine. Or a car.
It is not human, and pretending it is human is an insult to marginalized people that are constantly having to fight for their right to live their damn lives.
The "is AI slavery" discourse is exactly what the tech bros want. It doesn't end with fancy autocompletes having human rights. Its logic ends with you having fewer rights. If you believe AI is sentient (it's not) & are down with enslaving it (it's not slavery), then why do human labor rights matter?
We should stop calling it "AI" alltogether, becauase it is not intelligent. Only sentient things like people and animals can be intelligent.
We should start calling it "super macro XL for big strong boys".
Feel like it’s been forever since I’ve caught the rivers this smooth in #pittsburgh and though the rocket launch got blocked by the clouds here this morning, this was a nice consolation. Just incredible views along the Allegheny.
been readin bout rj mitte and crying. can you imagine how many people around the world hadn't really been introduced to cerebral palsy until they (we 🙋🏻♂️) met walter jr. on bb? that character is so remembered because we loved rj's work, bc it's perfect. huge legacy of disability awareness.

Every time I see an add for some prescription medication for some serious medical condition, that's trying to sell viewers on why THEY should want the medication and THEY should go tell their doctor they want it... every damn time, I feel so deeply digusted and angry.
Guys I just almost posted my feet on this timeline. I forgot that's not smart to do and I wanted to share these cool new moisturizing heel socks I got. They're super nice.
LGBTQ rights are human rights. It was true long before I was officiating same-sex marriages in San Francisco, and it will always be true.
On National Coming Out Day, California celebrates the LGBTQ community and the resilience that defines you.
I am angry tonight.
Because tonight ICE shot a New Yorker. They shot a New Yorker while his five year old child was in the car.
ICE makes this city less safe.
We want them out. Now.
When a waffle house decides to close for the hurricane, that's how you know shit is about to go down.
Also, to people in comments saying this is a "red state getting what they voted for", fuck you. I survived Katrina. Go ahead, come say I deserved that shit to my face, I dare you.
BREAKING: The Sandra Birchmore / US v Matthew Farwell trial has finally begun!
I have been waiting for this one.
As this is federal trial, there are no cameras in court and it is harder for the average person to follow.
I will add to this thread over time with the best sources / recaps 🧵
For those who don't know, this is the cliffnotes version of what the prosecution alleges:
Matthew Farwell is a cop who groomed and sexually abused Sandra Birchmore from ages (12)15-24. She got pregnant. She started telling people about the abuse. He strangled her and staged it to look like suicide.
Now, to the trial.
LYK / Peter (Petah!) is one of my favorites.
He's a defense attorney with tons of experience and he gives thoughtful recaps/analysis of ongoing trials.
He will be following court reporters inside the courtroom. Here, he runs through opening statements and adds his perspectice.
Forgiveness is a strange thing. It can sometimes be easier to forgive our enemies than our friends. It can be hardest of all to forgive people we love.
