Problems have solutions. Contradictions do not. They are permanent points of tension that can only be managed within the system in which they are embedded. They only go away when the system as a whole disappears.

I am, in my gloomier moments, convinced he’s trying to flush out anyone with qualms about obeying grossly illegal and immoral orders before 2029.

“The military has conducted extrajudicial executions of alleged drug dealers at sea and of a country’s head of state, … has kidnapped another head of state. And the president started a war without even consulting Congress, much less obtaining congressional authorization.…”

@barackobama.bsky.social what was that you said about old men building pyramids?

“Despite its text-inflected architecture and its staggering price tag, the Obama Center is, in fact, not a presidential library at all: it houses no official presidential records for researchers to dig through.” —Thomas Frank buff.ly/JndAZzA

@ericsorensen.bsky.social how’s that bipartisanship score that you’re so proud of?

The MAGA plot to subvert the 2026 midterm elections is coming into focus. 1. Declassify docs to claim 2020 was stolen. 2. Declare a "national emergency" to seize control of the election apparatus. 3. Hope the "national security" predicate keeps courts out. www.mediamatters.org/voter-fraud-...

How can anyone see the death and destruction in Gaza and the lack of attention to our needs here at home and think “more of our tax dollars should be going overseas”? The policy issues we face here at home are tied to the issues abroad, they aren’t separate.

Laughing in front of cages designed to hold migrants and refugees, many of whom came to this country fleeing extreme violence and poverty, and hoping to raise their children in a more compassionate country. And many of whom followed all the legal procedures to enter the country.

And remember, 93% have no record of any violent crimes. This facility, then, is comparable to the internment camps for Japanese Americans during the Second World War. But let's call it what it is: a concentration camp. Jesus wept.

No one who is thinking about 2028 in this moment should be considered in 2028. There is organizing happening now to fight for our communities. If your sleeves aren’t rolled up and you’re not active in the grassroots NOW, you’re not fit to lead.

Trump now saying — contrary to his previous statements and those of federal officials — that people removed from the U.S. to El Salvador are in the “sole custody” of El Salvador

Huh…weird…

Being a historian, people ask me if I think the US is living through Germany 1933. I answer no, analogies are always imperfect but to me it feels more like Russia 1999: a blatant theft of state assets and liberals in a fugue state, refusing to believe the arc of progress is bending against them.

Not going to lie…this kind of hurts. My Dad loved Gene Hackman.

PBS News@pbsnews.org

Gene Hackman, the versatile, Oscar-winning actor whose big-screen roles ranged from a narcotics detective in “The French Connection” and a basketball coach in “Hoosiers,” to a blind man in “Young Frankenstein” and villain Lex Luthor in “Superman,” has died. He was 95 years old.

The Democratic Party is viewed negatively by 57% of Americans. That will not change until those in the party stop idolizing those in leadership who led the party to that number.

I think about this quote a lot: "Before taking office, Mr. Trump told top aides to think of each presidential day as an episode in a television show in which he vanquishes rivals." –New York Times, Dec. 9, 2017
