Running a metadata enrichment project in the open? COMET pilot teams refined a Project Doc Template to record objectives, collaborators, outputs and lessons learnt, so others can trust and reuse the work. Try it and tell us what you'd change. #ScholarlyMetadata #OpenResearchInformation

An important milestone for spreading the impact of collaborative metadata enrichment! We’re very interested to see how the community makes use of these initial datatsets and getting feedback on future needs.

Ultimately, this app coupled with open research information brings daily relief and complements human curation, which remains fundamental for data quality ! And you, what is your workflow to feed and enrich your repository?

Second use case: #OpenAccess enrichment. By cross-referencing our repository's content with OpenAlex, a dedicated job identifies missing OA records. This allows us to systematically spot publications that could be flipped to Open Access. #OpenScience

Third use case: researcher-level monitoring. Using external sources and ORCID, the system compares external outputs with our repository, infers IDs, and generates a "gap" view for each profile.

First use case: automated imports from Scopus, WoS, OpenAlex, Crossref & DataCite, etc. for outputs with EPFL authors. The pipeline handles data fetching, metadata mapping, and reconciliation with our internal author and unit registries.

This daily feed populates a curation dashboard. Our team uses it to verify affiliations, manage deduplication, handle versioning (e.g., linking preprints to published versions), and retrieve available full texts and OA metadata.

Practical implication for institutional repositories: these API queries can surface dataset <> publication links that neither side declared explicitly.

Something we’re proud to share and the result of a great cross-team effort at EPFL Library ! Infoscience, ORCID, and people.epfl.ch form a virtuous, complementary ecosystem.
