@asms.org has sent out ballots for the BOD election. There is a strong slate of candidates this year. I know from other organizations only 20-25% of the membership vote in society elections so make your voice heard & vote. It took me 15 seconds to vote. I’m asking for your vote as VP for Programs.

Hey @asms.org peeps. I’m running for VP for programs and I’d like your vote. Check out the asms web site for details and you will see an email with voting instructions in the near future. I approach this position with lots of experience organizing scientific conferences & I ❤️ asms. Please re-sky.

Anybody ever had success by going on the offensive after getting disrespectful and denigrating reviews for a paper? And this was the third round of reviews. I’m guessing the reviewer hasn’t liked that the editor is keeping the paper alive. The other reviewers have signed off.

Just checking. This special issue of software issue is dedicated to Margaret Dayhoff on her 100th birthday. She was a bioinformatics pioneer. There is a great "perspective" written by her son-in-law on his recollections of Margaret.

#USHUPO2025. Tick tock. If you’re in early on Sunday there is a future of proteomics workshop 2-4pm. We have a great panel. Will anyone predict the proteoform jetpack is right around the corner!?! Come see.

USHUPO Attendees! On Sunday 2-4 pm we will present the lalapalooza of panel discussions on the Future of Proteomics. Several speakers will present visions of the future followed by a discussion with a distinguished panel. The session will be in the Regency AB room.

I'm all for Canada joining the USA. Let's do the math: if each province is a state so that's 10 provinces times 2 Senators each so that's 20 new senators. If Canada is just one state with a population of 40.1 million that would be more representatives than CA. Bring on the healthcare, baby!

The board of USHUPO has set up a GoFundMe site to support USHUPO members in the LA area. In particular these kinds of tragedies can impact graduate students and postdoctoral fellows hard. Here's the link. gofund.me/d73ac63a

The next season of #THEProteomicsShow has started! For The Philly Express, @proteomicsnews.bsky.social and I will feature speakers at #USHUPO2024 (weekly, hopefully). This first episode was the agenda, cause it was a bad idea the last two times. Enjoy!

Did you know @us-hupo.bsky.social has awesome short courses before #USHUPO2025? Also, did you know you can register separately for them (but come for the full conference too)?! These are some of the best teachers I know talking about some of the coolest #proteomics topics out there. Get registered!

if you are new to blue sky and you're following people I will follow you back if you have something describing your scientific interests. I want to avoid wholesale follow backs as I then get DMs about crypto scams.

Is basic science undervalued? David Glanzman (UCLA) talks about the decline of 'middle class' labs and that "there is no empirical evidence that the translational approach accomplishes this [cures] any better than the traditional one. Claims to the contrary at this point are mere propaganda."

USHUPO winners of the Omenn, Hunt, Costello, and Cotter awards. Match the names to the awards: Van Eyck, Mallick, Kelleher, and Zhu. Or just come to the 2024 meeting and see who got what, listen to insightful talks and drink microbrew beer.

Check out @ErinBakerIMS in the news @cenmag. She discovered some new PFAS for us to worry about using one of those super expensive ion mobility mass specs (according to @cenmag ). I sent this originally as an Xorcist.

I’m looking to blue sky to solve this. I started seeing metal strips on dog walks. I’ve now found them all over the USA & even saw one in Paris. In keeping with the times (during the pandemic) I dubbed them Q-drops with secret instructions and information digitally encoded on the surface. Source?

Excellent first meeting of the iSCMS cellulites. Nicely done Ryan and Ying and on a shoestring budget as most inaugural meetings have no cash for the start up. They had some pretty awesome cookies at one of the breaks. And now I have to diet again.

US post-docs, don’t forget about the ASMS career development awards. Applications are due November 30. I strongly encourage anyone interested to apply, gotta be in it to win it. DM me if you want a copy of the application I submitted.

Checking in. It’s a blue sky in Lajolla. I saw a musical last night about Hunter S Thompson. Audience really liked it but mostly old people go to plays and so they remembered him and Nixon. Raucous.
