I have so many ideas for how to structure my dream game, but the ideas vastly outpace the actual time I have to work on it. Maybe not a bad problem to have, but it's overwhelming. Like having massive scope creep before I even sit down to code.

Before you ask, yes, I know: - This is insane/naive/overscoped - This has been tried before - There will necessarily be compromises That said, I've already created things that prove *to me* that it's possible. I love coding for coding's sake, and also I'm not asking permission lol.

Honestly, I should maybe make a YT video about this. I would love to hear people's thoughts on this -- including the nay-sayers. Better to have people pointing out flaws early. Assuming of course anyone even were to care about my delusions, haha.

The big focus would be on "realistic" NPC simulation. In particular, I want NPCs to have thoughts, opinions, and memories. I want to have a conversation system that allows the user (or another NPC) to explore and influence those thoughts in various ways. (Using systems, NOT language models!)

Ideally, I want to create a world where an NPC can do everything the player can do. I want the player to feel part of the world, and to create the world. I want the player to develop relationships with NPCs and see how they play out. I want the player to be able to watch NPCs live their lives.

I would like actions to be duration-based and interruptable. I'm imagining that effects could resolve on a stack, similar to Magic the Gathering. (I've planned out a potential system for this, but haven't tried implementing it yet.)

Essentially I want to create an admittedly over-scoped simulation game engine that I can just tinker with long term. I'm thinking it'll probably be text-parser based, as that's the least limiting in terms of the features I want to implement vs my skills (e.g., any art is basically a no-go).

For example, I want it to be built on an ECS, more for extensibility and data atomization than for performance per-se. I also want to build a transactional "Delta" wrapper layer, so for example NPC logic could build out and evaluate hypotheticals (something like GOAP).

Just saw a local performance of Come From Away. A cast member / friend told me that they've succeeded if I feel equally devastated and hopeful. I would say they've succeeded! Incredible performance.

This Alberta referendum really spotlights how important education is, and why the UCP so desperately wants to destroy it. Every question on the ballot and every piece of propaganda are worded in the absolute most misleading possible way.

If they genuinely believed voters wanted any of this garbage, they would just ask the question. Instead they feel like they need to rely on blatant lies and misdirection. That should tell you everything you need to know about who this is all really for.

Definitely one of the cooler things I've seen in my life. πŸ‘€

Students made their first minicomics in my intro making course - mostly standard format but this student, a first time maker(!), did something so off the charts I’m still reeling from it! & he made like 12 of them for his classmates! A paper engineering feat of flipbookery as well as killer drawing!

Got some rough news about our cat's health yesterday. She's okay - we just need to adjust her diet and keep an eye on things for now. I'm okay - but this is a stark reminder that there is a day approaching where I won't be.

She's legitimately my best friend, and especially so soon after losing our dog I'm not sure my heart can take another hit like that. It's difficult to give her even more love than I already was, but I'm doing my best.

I've picked up a few Finnish words thanks to #Noita, and I've recently decided to lean into it a bit. Whenever I see an enemy, I try to say its name. For example, now I can say that I hate limanuljaska. I hate it.

For anyone unfamiliar, this game has a mechanic where one substance can be permanently transformed into another. In this case, I've turned all Rock into Swamp water. Water touches Lava, turns into Rock (which is actually Swamp), Swamp touches Lava, turns into Rock (more Swamp)... I love this game.

When witches are cackling and telling you β€œFire burn and cauldron bubble,” take a step back. Breathe. Those are normal things for fire and cauldrons to do. They’re trying to mess with you.

Getting into that time of year again where I'm so busy and stressed at work that I start to question whether life is even worth it. This is a totally healthy and normal way to live, right?

Haven't checked this out yet, but it looks like a cool project!

Handcoded in HTML, CSS and Javascript and running locally, Scrubjay is usable for research, collection, game-building, website construction or simply to hold little fragments of digital things, in the same way that you hold a pebble in your palm on a walk.
