What’s an example of a game series that actually benefited from being continuously set in the same setting? Only one really springs to my mind.

Y'know I always took the "lesson" of Bioware to be that you can't run big continuous series. DA and ME were essentially experiments to see whether you could stretch choice and consequence across the gap of individual releases and the result was that you can't. It's simply not worth it.

Kayin@kayin.moe

but god, LET IPS DIE. Even if the Devs are still around and supportive, don't you want to see the OTHER COOL SHIT they might come up with???

Around the time of ME3 and DAI it seemed clear that those games had run their course. I haven't played Andromeda, but as far as I have gathered, setting it in the ME setting didn't do it any favours?

what the hell are they putting in the water over there?

I liked Pragmata reasonably well, but I'm honestly surprised it performed this well. Guess we'll be seeing that Pragmatwo in the future

They made a *co-op* mode for the tavern brawler simulator?

Looking up games released in 2000 and I'm such a poser. I've barely played anything. If I ever gave the impression of having good taste, just take me out back and shoot me.

My #BSGOTYs2026 nominations for 1999: Valkyrie Profile Koudelka Persona 2: Innocent Sin Chrono Cross Resident Evil 3: Nemesis

I feel pretty strongly about this year, but I fear none of my nominations will survive. Maaaaybe P2 is popular enough, but I’d really like VP and Koudelka to go on to the next round

It's kinda funny that even with machine translations becoming better and better, the easiest tell is still them mixing up pronouns. Any sort of proofreading would catch referring to the heroine as "him".

it's literally 50/50 on whether this translation gets the character's gender right, even when they're right next to the panel!!

lol another group apparently picked the series up after this chapter and retranslated it

if this was a game translated from a big spreadsheet, I could see a human make that error but if you're scanlateing individual manga chapters, then no way you don't know the context of the scene lol

Today I’m doing emotional support work (lying in my gf bed while she works, so she doesn’t feel alone)

The plot of Koudelka: A wealthy gentleman stole immigrant documents from the Vatican. Somehow eternal life is involved.

We need to ban the Disco Elysium opening. You can't all keep doing the same thing.

The only discolike that does the disco opening well is Esoteric Ebb, and that opening works for different reasons that makes sense for its plot. Just don't do it.

My #BSGOTYs2026 nominations for 1998: Suikoden II Resident Evil 2 Metal Gear Solid Pokemon Yellow Spyro the Dragon

1998 is apparently a real bad year for me. Lot's of popular stuff that I don't really care for AND a lot of stuff that I *do* think is really cool, but I haven't go around to actually playing yet.

I can’t help but wonder. When the last Arkane game finally releases — with all the hopes and dreams everyone has channeled into it — and it turns out the game is kinda mid. Not bad, just a complete milquetoast title.

Knoebel@knoebel.bsky.social

Arkane Lyone has reportedly until November 13th to find a new buyer. According to an union member, 'Blade' is nearing the end of production. 213 Jobs are at risk. www.lemonde.fr/pixels/artic...

It’s 2027 and Arkane puts out a Marvel game with sanded down imsim design. The game sells 200k copies to lukewarm reviews and Arkane finally shuts down. What an ending.

70 percent of the internet was vulnerable yesterday to very bad security flaws inside a coding language. Turns out, *one volunteer* is mostly responsible for maintaining that code & helping push updates. Yesterday Ondřej Surý saved the internet. So I called him up www.theatlantic.com/technology/2...

Every time stories like this happen, some elected official will always defend it as an investment in the local economy. But it’s worth reiterating that it never benefits anyone but the tech company.

Completely wild that no Danish media reported on the security breach at ALL yesterday. I chatted with our IT guy at work and allegedly the municipality didn't even hear about the issue before the patch went live. He was all "It would have been a complete shitshow if you hadn't told me" lol

vkalsen@kalsen.dk

Woke up to news about the security vulnerability, so when I got to work I asked our IT guy about it and he hadn't even heard of it lol Feel like I deserve some sort of finders prize

Checked our public service outlet and they're finally reporting on, but in a "oh apparently something major happened" yesterday. It's so embarrassing. They clearly weren't aware of it at all and had to scramble to cover it retroactively.
