#Back-ups: seem abstract and ethereal unlike say, your book cabinet burning down. Most don’t understand the need for back-ups until it happens to THEIR data, let alone the 3-2-1 best practice: 3 sets of data - 2 back-ups - of which 1 off-site (cloud is fine) in case of a local catastrophe 🔥 💧 ⚡️

If you're only using a phone, extra thin laptop or post-2015 MacBook it's even more important since the "data drive" isn't removable but soldered on (and encryped). Use Time Machine, robocopy, whatever works for you and and once in a while check your data to make sure it's not infected or dead.

I love the full quote actually even more based

"I am incapable of learning lessons whenever it involves corporations, because I fundamentally do not view toy company CEOs or media CEOs as people."

Coding problem/assignment: a simple app for counting stuff in a text, it didn’t behave as expected. Missed the argv logic & had to use the average in a few spots. Ended up with floating point errors. Reversed the changes, somehow made it worse: now it just goes brrr segmentation fault. 😬🥹 FML 🤦🏾‍♂️

Watched the opening scene in the new (2025) Naked Gun movie and so far it seems pretty on brand, seeing as how they whipped out a literal P.L.O.T. DEVICE 💀😂

What I’ve learned so far is I had no clue on how to properly layer colors 🤡 happy with how the #Decepticon logo turned out tho🤘🏾

I can’t remember where I read this, but it’s important: Why is it that when people think about traveling to the past, they worry about doing something small that will drastically change the present, but no one in the present thinks that doing something small today can drastically change the future?

One of my favorite parts of early Linux history is Linus wanting to call the project Freax, thinking Linux was too egotistical. When he uploaded it to an FTP server the admin Ari Lemmke thought the name was stupid so he just changed it to Linux without telling him

Current European rhetoric: 1/3 - "ILLEGAL immigrants are stealing our jobs (we don't want to do, for pay that's less then our unemployment payments)"

2/3 - "Why would they come here? Those countries are SAFE! It's not like WE colonized those areas or helped a coupe or two ...and if we did, that was SO long ago why are you still bringing that up?!"

3/3 - "They're all drug smugglers or raping thieves. Hmm? Sanctions? Unfair trade deals? We only did that to EVIL regimes (we couldn't replace with puppets)!"

I... what? 🤷🏿‍♂️🥲

As a German, telling people „no“ is my favorite thing in the world. I’m always surprised by other cultures being much more agreeable than us lol (also to a German „no“ isn’t hurtful btw, it’s polite even. It’s trying to be respectful about everyone’s time and resources)

I always tell those trying to get into freelance that saying no to a project is the most powerful tool in your kit. I’m realizing now that this applies to so many more facets of our lives. Gaslighting often removes that ability to say no to someone leaving you feeling stripped of power and agency

I’ve grown a longer beard a few times now and the avalanche of ”are you Muslim“ type questions has been both eye-opening and unnerving
