Capel Garmon Burial Chamber near Betws-y-Coed in North Wales. Somewhat of an outlier for a Cotswold-Seven type long barrow. As it's across a couple of fields from our holiday cottage I'm sure we'll see more of it this week #TombTuesday

A long journey from Cornwall to North Wales yesterday meant dipping into a certain history podcast covering the King Arthur stories. So here's the so called King Arthur's Stone at Slaughter Bridge near Camelford in Cornwall. Happy #StandingStoneSunday and Happy half-term holiday. Pic from 2018.

I don't visit Dartmoor often enough even though I drive to Plymouth every day for work. So I enjoyed meeting a recently retired colleague for a walk after school on Friday - it rained all day until just before we started our walk. Down Tor stone row and ring cairn. Happy #StandingStoneSunday !!

Here's a lovely sunny #TombTuesday pic taken on very hot walk near Pamplona in Spain to see the Dólmenes de Artajona just a few weeks ago.

My Google pics found this when I asked it to search my photo library for a #StandingStoneSunday contribution. Taken in 2011 it's the Runstenskullen or The Rune Stone Hill in Lund, Sweden. This is a collection of C10th rune stones from Skåne.

A #StandingStoneSunday that's more a #TombTuesday cry for help. This is stone 1 of Mougau-Bihan allee couverte in Brittany. I can't see engravings that should be visible. See other pics for what should be there and example from elsewhere in this tomb. Stone 1 has me puzzled. Help!

The Nine Stones, Altarnun, Bodmin Moor. Usually when I visit these stones they are standing in water - so great to be able to not get soggy feet on this occasion. #StandingStoneSunday

Woop! It's #TombTuesday. For reasons not there's enough space here to explain, I found myself in Liskeard's twin town of Quimperlé in Brittany last week. So on a mission to get content for my St. Cleer Heritage Facebook page I visited the nearby Allée Couverte de Kercordonner near Möelan-Sur-Mer.

Some of the more than 77 stones that make up La Noce de Pierres or An Eured Ven near the Mont St-Michel de Brasparts in Brittany. Beautiful with the heather and gorse. I'm not sure we could see more than about 20 of the stones. Supposedly an entire wedding party turned to stone. #StandingStoneSunday

An old fave from me for #TombTuesday Mougau Bihan allée couverte, Commana in Brittany. This site is at about mile 4 of a fave 7 mile loop we walked yesterday. I still stop and look for the carvings to check I can find them and that I haven't missed any even though I have visited many times.

A bit of a cheat for #StandingStoneSunday wine picked up at motorway services - because of the pretty label! On the way from the Ariége to Brittany in one very long car journey yesterday. No time or energy to stop off for a pic of an actual standing stone.

The remains of the C13th Château of Saint-Barthélémy near Durban-sur-Arize, Ariège, France. Built on top of a 2nd century BC Gallic oppidum. #HillfortsWednesday View from a footpath near a gite we're staying in and the destination for today's walk.

The Dolmen of El Moreco near Burgos, Spain. East-west oriented, the passage still retains some of its capstones and leads to circular chamber. Photo taken last week. #TombTuesday

A small circular kerb with a central menhir, remains of a burial mound at the Necrópolis de La Polera near Burgos, Spain. We followed the Ruta Arqueólogica signs for about 2.5 miles from the Ermita de Nuestra Señora de Montes on the outskirts of the village of Urbiana. #StandingStoneSunday

Woop! #TombTuesday and the last Tuesday of this school year for me! 🎉🍾 So I will be off to visit places I haven't seen before very soon. Until then, my nearby neighbour here in St. Cleer: Trethevy Quoit.

Kerzerho Alignments in Erdeven, Brittany. Pic from last summer. Free to wander anywhere here unlike the more famous sites at Carnac. Worth following one of the walking trails away from the main alignments to find the "giants" or the numerous other local neolithic sites. #StandingStoneSunday

I'm a bit of a novice when it comes to recognising butterflies, but I'm learning that certain species pop up in specific places each year, so that helps remember which are which. Here's a Marbled White feasting on knapweed growing in a field near my house. #ButterflyWeek #Butterflies #Insects

Right, I've been given free reign to "host" a butterfly week hashtag if I so wish. I've no idea what this entails, other than bigging up butterflies sharing posts and commenting. So if anyone is up for a #ButterflyWeek fest beginning on Monday, like, share and comment on this post, if you fancy. 🦋😀

A wayside cross near the Basque village of Arantza. Pic taken in August 2016. A beautiful part of the world to explore. We're heading in that direction in a couple of weeks time for the start of a trip that will end in Brittany. #StandingStoneSunday

Hear me out on #StandingStoneSunday I love this monument to Tour de France winners in Parc Tissié, Pau. When I first saw it, no actual standing stones - it just has *those* vibes (I know you know!). Each yellow post dedicated to a TDF winner since the very first race.Pic from 2017.

...We were fascinated by the posts, seeking out past winners. It became important for me to find the 1995 winner of the last race my Dad watched before he died - he passed his interest in the race to me, but in 1995 I missed catching up on it with him as I was away working in France that summer.

The Menhirs de Monteneuf in Brittany, nearly 20 years ago. The child, now 21, needs a lift at 2.30am Sunday morning from Plymouth coach station as he managed to book a trip that doesn't return him home to Cornwall. I don't think I'll be awake when it's a normal time to post a #StandingStoneSunday!

Not my usual type of post on here but it's been a pleasure to have been able to contribute to the Birth-to-Five document again - working with colleagues from EYFS provisions and representing a special school perspective on the SEND and inclusion aspect. New version out soon! #EYFS

My latest drawing features Trevethy Quoit, a magnificent dolmen in Cornwall. I have been trying out a few styles and materials in the past few weeks, but I am starting to think that nothing beats good old-fashioned pencil on paper for capturing the magical atmosphere of the old stones. #TombTuesday

One section of the Alignments de Lagatjar near Camaret-sur-Mer in Brittany. Visible just beyond are the ruins of the Saint-Pol Roux Manor. Pic from Feb 2024. I've never visited in the summer - maybe this year. #StandingStoneSunday

The Ty-er-Mané or Dolmen de Botlann at Erdeven, Morbihan is all that remains of a passage grave. It now finds itself surrounded by houses, and on a road called Rue du Dolmen. #TombTuesday

An arrangement of stones at Tregarrick Tor overlooking Siblyback Lake on the edge of the Craddock Moor part of Bodmin Moor. Maybe part of a tor cairn or some other structure - there's lots going on up there. #StandingStoneSunday

It's the morning after the night before in my world - just recovering from SFA gig last night. So I'm being a bit lazy posting a Pentre Ifan photo I took ten years ago. A #StandingStoneSunday that can double up for #TombTuesday.

Tinkinswood Burial chamber near Cardiff. The huge limestone capstone weighs 40 tons. I can think of others that are similarly chunky which must have taken the kind of community cooperation to build that we could only dream of now! #TombTuesday

Gors Fawr stone circle at Mynachlog-ddu in Pembrokeshire. This pic is the least gloomy of any I have ever taken when visiting this place! #StandingStoneSunday

Yay! #TombTuesday I feel a Welsh theme to my posts for the next couple of weeks as I'm off to see Super Furry Animals very soon! Woop! Here's Carreg Coetan Arthur in Pembrokeshire. Dougal for scale.

A view of part of what remains of The Hurlers south circle - not restored or excavated unlike the other two circles. Just nine stones evident today, two of them still standing. #StandingStoneSunday

Happy Bank Holiday! Here’s a tongue-in-cheek #parody song about #nigelfarage accepting a massive gift from a #crypto billionaire and then hiding from a #BBC interview - to the iconic tune #500miles of the legendary Proclaimers … We’re calling it: “Five Million Quid” 💰🤑💰🤑💰🎶 youtu.be/z5A0qpWUrfg?...

The Pipers, standing to the south west of the three Hurlers circles on Bodmin Moor near Minions. If you face north they frame Stowes Hill and the Cheesewring but of course the sun doesn't set in the north, so this view takes in very non-prehistoric New Phoenix mine building. #StandingStoneSunday

I couldn't find this pic to go with my #StandingStoneSunday post yesterday - popped up today as a May 2020 memory - a snap taken on a lockdown walk. The Pipers framing Stowes Hill. Significant??

Nine Maidens stone row, St. Columb Major, Cornwall. A #StandingStoneSunday that has left me looking like I came off worse after a disagreement with a feral cat. We attempted to hop over a hedge at its least brambly place to avoid getting run over in the A39 while walking from car to footpath.

Didn't think I'd have time for #TombTuesday today - but here from a trip ten years ago with our boys and some lovely friends. Kings Quoit perched on the cliff above the beach at Manorbier in Pembrokeshire. Don't be fooled by the sunshine - I remember that day as being freezing!
