I know it's cheesy as hell, and it's a hard, hard business for many, but I feel very lucky to be here, with this awesome team doing this silly thing. Shout out to our crew on here @keitalia.bsky.social, @emlikesthis.bsky.social, @wanderingmatt.com and @bencarr.net

Sweet Shop@sweetshop.app

Thank you, everyone, for using and promoting sweetshop.app. We're so grateful for the response, the feedback and the enthusiasm. We know it can feel like broadcasting into the void on social media, but the echoes are working. #comics are the best. We're so proud and damn lucky to carry them.

One of the hilarious side effects of LLMs is you get to see "product" guys ideas finally coming out in their "vision", and it shows why software engineers are so important.

As a general rule we're pretty against dumb gimmicks for devices, so probably don't expect an iBooks 1 style skeuomorphic page turn on Duo. We don't want to get in the way of your reading. Phones aren't books. But I can be convinced...

As a comic fan, I naturally have deep respect for insane and long acronyms. So, shouts to BODEGA (Brooklyn Organization Dedicated to the Endurance of the Graphic Arts) for announcing the CAT (Comic Arts Trophy) nominations, which will be revealed at BEC (Brooklyn Expo of Comics). I love ALL of that.

I've been thinking a lot about how @sweetshop.app might sell webtoon-style comics, especially with the closing of Tapas. We have a lot of the capabilities necessary, and we don't do the AI/VC thing. Still, the threshold of audience will be as high/subjective as it is for publishers we take on...

Kenny Meyers
@kennym.bsky.social

And since all these platforms used a shady metric like "views" we'd have to figure that out. We probably wouldn't do the tokens or IP BS, just direct sales or subscriptions per comic. Be curious what the WEBTOON community thinks of that?

Today is FOC on what I think is one of the best books to come out of Minor Threats. The Cleaner is about a broken person who mops up the gutters of the superhero/supervillain world who makes a major mistake that comes back to haunt him… or give him a second chance at life.

Gerry Duggan@gerryduggan.bsky.social

Really grateful that Patton, Jordan & Scott invited Mark Torres and I to play in the MINOR THREATS sandbox. This is a seedy crime story in a world dominated by capes. Orders are due this Monday - it's one of my favorite recent collaborations. Thanks for checking it out!
