I just realized it will be Friday the 13th (November) that I will be speaking at DB World 2026 π±.
Don't worry, I don't see any J(a)SON on the agenda π.
You can safely get your ticket:
nloug.nl/en/events/db...
I'm speaking after afternoon break.

You can't pass parameters to views
But with macros in Oracle AI Database you can create view-like objects that do have parameters
These received a big upgrade in 23.26.4 with macro objects:
CREATE MACRO ... IS SELECT ...

Note to self:
1 >>character<< is written as VARCHAR2(1 CHAR), *not* VARCHAR2(1)

(Yes, I know, you can set your session NLS_LENGTH_SEMANTICS to CHAR, but I prefer to be explicit, that way I catch when I make mistakes like this.)

A small but mighty new feature of Oracle APEX 26.2 is the ability to import a single file when using APEXlang.
See it in action here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=ANdj...#orclapex

Good point that I hadn't really thought of, but definitely an advantage if the language (like APEXlang) provides less room for hallucinations π
(PS. Careful if you like me have to google DSL, there are other definitions beside Domain Specific Language and Digital Subscriber Line π)
I started using Make in my APEX projects to keep the SQLcl, etc. commands in 1 place.
There's also a sync script that exports the app before importing and merges the changes with Git βimports don't overwrite what others did in App Builder.

Whether or not you can follow Mike's patching recommendations, at the bare minimum you MUST have a current version of the database. It's not up for debate, folks!
Patching recommendations: Which route is the best? RUs, MRPs,Β n-1??
Be aware, this is a longer Monday blog post. Upfront, I am not the master of patching. And I clearly see that many of you struggle with the current situation. Not only regarding Oracle software but I guess, this extends to almostβ¦
Quoting myself from a day ago - "The problem is thinking that the product of a programmer is code. It isn't, really, the code is just the final stage. The actual valuable thing the programmer produces is the underlying mental model. Without that, the code is just tech debt"
Ask TOM Live has been running over 8 years now!
That's nearly 100 sessions covering Oracle #SQL I've hosted - most of which included live demos
As requested by an attendee yesterday I've uploaded all my scripts for past sessions to GitHub

You should get involved in the Oracle Community - it'll take you on a journey. Perhaps the story of my journey can inspire you. And perhaps the #OracleACE program can be part of your community involvement too.
In October I'll do two presentations at #HrOUG2026.
Join me on a lovely island, where a bunch of top-notch speakers provide excellent content.
