Thanks to Ian for sharing the love! So cool to know people are enjoying ‘Why Do You Let Me Lie Here Wastefully?’. I have a strong memory of reading Ian’s ‘Ghost Walks’ in last year’s edition of the series - one of my favourites.

". . . he appeared relatively well adjusted. He had introduced me to my first bong." @kieranstories.bsky.social's story 'Why Do You Let Me Lie Here Wastefully?' starts with a bike theft and then takes a brilliantly unexpected and surreal turn. Superb. #shortstories @saltpublishing.com

The Unpeople album is growing on me. Blueprints is the highlight for me - a banger!

Booked a Monday off work, so had to pick up some new music for the long weekend 💿 gonna kick back if that’s blummin okay!

The latest story on said blog is ‘Phonics’. This is where my writing has been this year… my own online alcove. kieranstorieswriter.blog/2026/10/04/o...

‘Why Do You Let Me Lie Here Wastefully?’ in Best British Short Stories 2026. I’ve kept to myself this year, working on my blog, so I wasn’t expecting *this*. Excited to know that more people will read the story. Overawed to be in such good company. @saltpublishing.com

Rewatching Jonathan Creek. Here’s a thing. Two episodes hinge on grammatical misunderstandings. Errant comma: The Seer of the Sands. Missing apostrophe: Ghost’s Forge.

We went to see my cousin and his band Silver Chamber perform at Lancaster Priory last night. Awesome stuff. Here he is (left) after the first set. Link below to the band’s site. Check ‘em out.

I suffer from regency bias which means that I believe a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife.

Sorting out the back of my wardrobe this morning. I’ve found a stack of notebooks from 2023. Inside one is a false start to a story which was later in The London Magazine.

Features one of my favourite short stories ‘Industrial Byproducts’.

Good morning. Today, I'm going to give a little push to my second collection of stories, 'Intervals of Darkness', from 2024, partly because I think of it as particularly autumnal. www.amazon.co.uk/Intervals-Da...

Had a nice long walk today and brought Shirley Jackson with me. This book includes three essays on writing. One essay focuses on the writing of and backlash to The Lottery. Amazing to think that story is nearly 80. It’s stunning!

Thinking about September’s post… lots of narrative non-fiction, not much fiction. Very different month to August, which you can read about below! 📚

New blog post about my August reading. Had fun with this one! Quite a wide-ranging month: from Stormbreaker to Picnic at Hanging Rock, and the new collection by @polyscribe70.bsky.social 📚 kieranstorieswriter.wordpress.com/2026/08/29/o...
